Why so long to close and establish RCI account?

I currently own weeks and am closing on a points account. I am told from the realtor/closing company it will take 8-12 weeks to close.

I am told from RCI it will take an additional 6-8 weeks to establish a points account once they get the info from my home resort.

Why in the year 2008 does all this take so long? I can buy virtually any single family home or condo in the world and close in a month.

It might just be that the county is very slow in recording ownership. Since I only own deeded weeks, I'm not sure how points are registered. But when I purchased in Oseola county (Kissimmee, FL) even the county clerk's office told me that it took a couple of months to process the paperwork unless the paperwork was walked into their office.

Maybe I'm just impatient. What I really don't understand is why it takes so long to establish a points membership? Especially since I already have a weeks membership.

Essentially, this process could take 5 months!

if its wyndham, its months, not weeks. They are very slow. Wyndham taking up to 6 months is not unheard of. My recent purchase took nearly 5 months to close. Its been 2 months since it was completed, and still no RCI account setup yet with them.

Yes, more than likely you can close faster than 8-12 weeks, however, unlike a house or a condo or even a commercial building, the closing company is at the mercy of the resort for things like right of first refusal letters (some quote as long as 30 days to get), estoppel letters, getting docs and $$$ back from buyers and sometimes sellers.

Getting them to the recording office is not a problem and getting the recorded docs back most of the tiime not a problem, however there are some states that are running 6 months behind in their recordings (Hawaii).

After the recorded deed comes back, the closing company is done and forwards to the resort and then you start the process all over again.

There is an old saying about the more hands that touch something....... this seems to be very true in the timeshare world.
