I ordered a FoodSaver on Saturday from Amazon and of course had the opportunity to pay for next day shipping or even sign up for a "free trial" of Prime to get 2-3 day delivery. Well the item left their warehouse yesterday and was delivered today. I think it probably helped that the warehouse that it was shipped from is near Indianapolis and it only had to travel about three hours to Dayton.

Why pay for next day delivery when you can get something in a day or two? I have had similar experiences with Best Buy and had items delivered in about two days.

Same here; Amazon recently built a warehouse near us, and Apple ships from a facility near us too. I was amazed at how quickly things get here from them, until I realized it was a 15 minute drive from home. Maybe I could have gotten "Same Hour" delivery, or at least pickup!

Thing is you don't always know which warehouse an item is coming from. That said, I ordered a book about a year ago from Amazon when I got to work one morning then when I got home that evening the book had already been delivered (did not choose same day or even one day shipping). In some areas they do offer same-day and my guess is the warehouse the book was coming from had other deliveries to do in the Boston area and figured it was more cost effective for them to do same-day to me.

I do have Amazon Prime, and like the fact that if I truly need it I can get one-day shipping at a reasonable cost.
