Hmmm, I have never had a reason to look into "mesh" tools, but I would still be inclined to just use access points wired back to a switch. Extremely reliable, they all have the same SSID and it works for large venues and businesses, so likely is going to be pretty solid in your home.

Now adays TP-Link and others offer close to consumer prices for "enterprise grade gear" which is generally a step above their consumer lines (but not really $2,000 an access point reliable of "true enterprise gear"). I've found the Omda (I think) line from TP-Link to run $60 an access point, FSstore has 8+2 port switches for $70, and you can get a decent Microtik or TP Link standalone wired router for ~$120. I can't imagine a normal house that would need more than 8 APs. My limited imagination usually sees 3 at most.

And while you can go and do all sorts of cool stuff (you can easily make your own "guest" network separate from the more secure one for family for instance), just getting started is actually just plugging it all in and the defaults work out of the box.
