Why do some sell when others don’t

I have been considering trying to sell a Westin Kaanapali double lock off annual and from time to time look at various web sites to see what others are actually selling theirs for. I am confused. For example, on eBay there are two recently closed listing for a similar timeshare. One had a Buy It Now price of $11,000 and got no bids. The other had a Buy Iy Now price of $16,500 and actually sold for $14,000. The only difference I can see is a roughly 2 week difference in timing. Is it just a matter of being lucky to list when a buyer might actually be looking? Or am I missing something?

Luck.
Two weeks apart could make a difference between, say, week 45 when no one travels and week 47, Thanksgiving week. But generally, luck.

Was there a difference in the reserve or in the opening bid??

One time I was renting a unit and listed it on eBay with no reserve and a $1 opening bid. I set it up as a 10-day listing. A couple of days after my listing went up, someone else listed an identical unit. The person even copied and pasted my listing for their listing, just changing the details. The other listing was for a seven-day period, so it ended a day before mine. But the other listing has a $800 opening bid, no reserve.

That auction expired without any activity. Meanwhile my listing closed, with a winning bid of almost $1000.

High opening bids and high reserves drive away bidders. But no reserve auctions with low opening bids announce to the world that you are serious about the listing.

WKORV, WKV, SDO, 4-Kauai Beach Villas, Island Park Village (Yellowstone), Hyatt High Sierra, Dolphin's Cove (Anaheim) NEW: 3 Lawa'i Beach Resort!
WKORV has 3 views - Island View, Ocean View, and Ocean Front. Ocean View and Ocean Front command higher prices.

For a high dollar TS like this - I'd use a reputable broker, rather than trying to sell it yourself.

Also the seller reputation can make a difference. Sometimes people with zero or few ratings try to sell big ticket items. Or some sellers with poor reputations have trouble selling. Tug has reviews for timeshare sellers which is helpful. an EBay rating isn't always the best sign of how good a seller is. Not sure if it applies to the auctions that you mention.
