Or they could completely legalize pot w/o needing a prescription and tax the HELL out of it. Since we're all staying inside anyways, may as well make it more enjoyable. I don't smoke, I just wish the government had more money for schools. I don't even get enough money for calculators/pencils and paper.

My question was not whether you trust the government or not. It is whether you would be willing to give up 20% or more of your income (whether through private job, government job or social security or pension) to help others who are suffering. In my question, let’s assume the aid was effective in going to those in need.
Assuming the money goes to those who NEED it, yes. I would give 20% more.

Most people agree that teachers should be paid more, but won't agree to higher taxes. I made $37,000 a year when I started 8 years ago. Now I'm at $45,000!! Woohoo!

That's about the same increase I've gotten. But my increase is mostly due to gaining seniority after 7 years and being able to take more overtime. My actual increase after 7 has only been from $26ish an hour to $30.60/hr

This might not help, but in the private sector many people are making significantly less than 10 years ago. I have two friends who got laid off and were unable to find better jobs. They lost income for 7 to 12 months while unemployed. The new jobs they got paid significantly less. They will never be able to make it up. In my last job in a corporation, I also took a 20% pay cut. We in the private sector do not get pension. So my point is the private sector is not necessarily better than being a teacher. In the long run, it all balances out.

Yea I realize I'd be the last person to get laid off. Even one of the last teachers. I teach math AND science in a title 1 high school. My husbands been laid off probably about 5 times in the last 5 years in IT, but every job after has been higher paying and more advanced. He always had good references, but it was company buyout after company buyout. He's supposed to start a job soon that pays more than double what he made 5 years ago. I read that IT has the shortest job length because of how much it's always changing.

I'd give 20%. But no way would I give it to the government. The lack of trust is sad, but I just don't trust them to distribute the money to those in need.
