Marriott Mountainside- Winter weeks & Summer weeks and points
I read threads that some TUG owners have 25,000- 30,000 total points.
What are you doing with all of these points?
Are you renting out a bunch of weeks and points and using some to enjoy?
Do you use RedWeek, Koala, TUG?

I read don't use for cruises, don't use for cars, don't use for this or that.

We purchased two deeded weeks at Marriott Mountainside in 2000. One Winter/One Summer week.
We added a few points to get us over the 10,000 point value, Presidential, a couple of years ago.
Not sure why...., but we need to deal with it and make it work for us and not against us.
We have enjoyed many ski weeks and family times.

Now, I am reviewing our maintenance fees and realizing I need to rent out some week(s) and points.
I just wonder what people do with over 15,000 points?
Thanks TUG friends.

Points values differ with different timeshare companies. There are RCI points, Wyndham points, Hilton points, Marriott Points and on and on and they are not the same or have the same value. Where it may cost 50K points to book a 1 bedroom unit in one type of point system it may only take 10K points to book a similar 1 bedroom unit in another system. You need to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

Those are usually individuals that have fractional shares that can exchange for a lot of points. Specifically, the Grand Residence at Lake Tahoe. Those often exchange for 25k - 50k points, depending on season. I'm sure some that have access to even more.

We had close to that at one pt between weeks and pts but we have slowly sold some pts off and given back some weeks. We were using it to “snowbird” for 6-8 weeks a year until my husband got sick

We have over 20,000 enrolled weeks electable points.
We would have had over 25,000 and qualified to move from Chairman’s Club to Reserve Owner Benefit Level, except that we gave back 2x St Kitts Beach Club weeks as the MF’s were getting excessive

Would we have kept them, if we had known about the new levels and this “upgrade” option?
Who knows, but what is done is done.
It is still frustrating though that introduction of these changes happened not so long after we gave back these weeks, so we never even had the option.

Given this is in the MVC forum, and OP only owns and references MVC, wouldn't the presumption be they are talking about Abound points? What would make you think the may be talking about those other systems?

I believe this thread was moved to MVC forum, from another forum, after the 3rd post.

That makes a bit more sense, though there was no mention of any other system and it was obviously moved here for a reason.

Not a Marriott owner (Bluegreen here), so I'll leave the Marriott-specific rules to the folks who know them, but on the renting side of your question:

The big thing is to have the reservation actually booked before you list it. Renters are shopping specific dates, and it's a lot easier to sell "7 nights, 2BR, check-in June 14" than "I have points, make me an offer."

TUG's own Marketplace classifieds are cheap to list on, RedWeek gets a lot more eyeballs, and Koala is newer and works more like a booking site. Plenty of people use more than one.

Prime weeks like ski season, summer and holidays usually rent without much trouble. Off-season weeks are a lot tougher and sometimes only cover the maintenance fees if you're lucky, so it's worth looking at what similar units are actually listed for before you set a price. Also check with Marriott on what it takes (and whether there's a fee) to put the renter's name on the reservation.

Thank you to those who answered. Yes, it was for Marriott. Now that people answered regarding spending 6-8 weeks at one property, I did meet
a couple from Boston (retired) who gets 6-8 weeks at a Hilton Head Resort with their points. I'm in Clearwater, FL so I don't need to go anywhere
more South. The Marriott salesman in Park City, UT did tell me he had clients who purchased points to start in PC for the summer instead of buying a
condo or home that can cost over a million near the downtown area. Our home resort is Marriott Mountainside. Winter week and Summer week.

Long ago at the bar at Ocean Pointe I talked to a guy who told me he had 42 Marriott weeks. I was blown away. I remember he told me he'd been to about every Marriott and considered the Palm Desert resorts the top of the heap (very nice, but not Hawaii). That's a lot of vacation and a lot of maintenance fees.

They kind of are an exit company already. They charge $400. Some companies charge thousands. I am sure increasing the deed back fee is in the cards for Marriott. Perhaps they will hire some former Westgate executives where the fee is $3000. Or maybe some former Bluegreen where it is some multiple of the maintenance fee. Some people have been quoted $6500 with Hilton Vacation Club (former Diamond) which I understand now uses what Bluegreen used to charge for deed backs.

I returned a Timber Lodge week to Marriott a couple years ago.
I don't recall a $400 fee. I was required to pay the future year's M.F. without being able to use it, so close to $1,500.

The $400 fee is relatively newish.

Do you know if they also require an advance payment of M.F.?
I don't think so. Maintenance Fees are collected or not collected based on who gets first use. So it seems odd that they required you to pay $1500 in MFs with you not getting use.

We vacation 22 weeks a year. We are only Chairman's and also own deeded weeks where we want to travel.

We own weeks that we rent but recently divested of 35 of our "former rental" weeks, gave them away.

I am new to this site, but I got on it to see if I can find 100 points to rent. I'd like to book a vacation and am literally less than 100 points short after borrowing all that I can from next year. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
