Which unit to request at Mauna Loa Village?

I'm giving my 2009 week at Mauna Loa Village in Kona to my niece and her fiance as a wedding gift. They'll be staying there next July 4th week. Although I own there, I've only toured the place - haven't had the chance to stay there as yet.

When I spoke to the front desk there before making the reservation, I explained what I was doing with the week, and asked whether they had any sort of special unit for newlyweds, or with a more romantic view. They said the units have a pool view, a garden view, or a golf course view. I've read some of the units at the back of the resort actually have a small ocean view.

For those who know, are there specific units to ask for, or that may be better than another? It's a 1br unit. Is an upper floor better than a lower? Help me make the best gift possible for my favorite niece.

Thanks,
Dave

All the units have a good view, since there is no ocean view then it doesn't make a lot of difference. We were exchangers and had a pool and golf course view which was really nice.

There are no elevators so you have a small safari carrying evrything in. The uppers have better views nand higher ceilings. We have stayed there 4 times on exchanges and never saw the ocean from the resort and if you could it might not be as good a view as the golf course/pool views.

Aloha Dave,
We stayed in unit 18-120 (1Bedroom) of the Holua Resort at Mauna Loa Village a few years ago. We only had a pool view. The pools are smallish. I count 8 of them on the map. Its a great location south of the congestion of Kona but close enough to be there when you want.

I happen to have found the resort map with our room number. I don't know which units are Shell (Holua) vs Wynham. Anyway, if stairs are not a problem, always ask for the upper floor - no one is walking on your ceiling. Buildings 17 & 20 are closest to the ocean. I remember noticing that a few of the units there did have distant ocean views over one of the fairways. In building 20, these units might have a distant ocean view: 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, & 132 (129 & 130 might be best but not sure).
In building 17 (which might be only 2 bedroom units) 109, 110 & 111 might have a distant ocean view.
In building 16 units 105 & 106 might have ocean views looking between buildings 20 & 17 and might be 1 bedrooms.
If none of the above work, then I'd recommend a fairway view in building 12 (77 or 78 appear to be centered, 79 & 80 are angled a bit toward building 13 and the ocean).
Finally, I'd recommend building 5 (units 30 & 31 are centered on fairway).
We don't own there and did not spend time surveying the resort (we did submit a review, though), so all of the above is just reading a little map - I might be completely wrong.
Best wishes to the newly weds.
Jack

Thanks, everyone. I'll talk to the resort. And Jack, if we ever get the chance to meet in person, I'd be happy to buy you a beverage of your choice. You're always a great source of helpful information!
