Which Resorts for Hawaii Island

We are planning a big island trip for summer 2022.

There are 4 Hilton resorts in big island: Bay Club, Kohala Suits, Ocean Tower and King's Land.

I just wonder which resort we should book for a relax family vacation. What are advantages and disadvantages for each resort? What does it mean for CD, CP, AD, AP, BD, BP for Bay Club?

We are in late 50s with a college kid.

Any recommendations and insights are highly appreciated.

Thank you.

We were at Kings’ Land in July and really enjoyed it. Because we were out and about in our car everyday, having the car 100 feet away from the front door was convenient. My two 20 year old boys enjoyed the space and proximity to the pool. The bathroom was huge but no bidet. I hear the rooms are larger at Bay Club but unlike staying at Kings’ Land, if you want to use the pool facilities at Hilton Waikoloa, you'll have to pay extra.

Seems like Bay Club and Kohala Suites seem a bit more dated. Can someone comment whether the road noise at Bay Club is load or noticeable? Never heard vehicle noise at Kings’ Land.

OceanTower is too big a facility for us. Seems like quite a trek to your car. I hear there is phased upgrades over there. Love to hear what you choose…

Just got back from 18 days on the BI - we go there almost every year.

1. I would avoid the Ocean Tower, unless you intend to stay on property most of the time. The Hilton property is great, but Parking is $37/day and the walk to the HGVC property is about 1/2-3/4 mile from the main desk, about a mile if you include the trek from your car. There is a tram from the main lobby - but it runs at a snail's pace. Also, most all of the shops are closed - like GONE, empty.
2. Kings is the best of the condo properties - but the most crowded. Great pool with a kids area as well as adult pool and a really nice grill/bar area.
3. Kohala is OK, small pool - nice if you want to sit in the shade and read, but if you want to soak up the sun, not a lot of options.
3. Bay Club has the largest rooms but is the oldest of the properties, has two pools (one with a grill/bar) and is the most laid back. No road noise, BTW.

Our choice is always the Villas at the Bay Club, but we enjoy pool time and exploring the island. We're also Elite, so can go to the King's pool anytime we want.

Thanks for all the insights and photos.

It looks like that we should book Bay Club since we prefer quite time for reading, or just sitting on the balcony. Any views from balcony or just parking lot?

BC 1 BRs have parking lot view, all 2 BRs are mainly golf views. Penthouse FLoors have a few ocean glimpses. See the coding of room types I provided in the resort info post we have complied https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/hgvc-detailed-resort-affiliated-information.254931/#post-1996661

I love Koala Suites, but if you can get a larger unit at Kings'land, go for it. Never stayed at Bay Club, but I would love to.

We have stayed at the Bay Club several times and Kohala Suites once. Never stayed at Kingsland, really no huge desire to do so. Prefer the Bay Club units. We've always stayed in a two bedroom so have had a view of the golf course. We had a ground floor unit one year and that was great as our daughters could walk out to the grassy area. We walk in the morning and head over to the Hilton hotel property. Bay Club is closer than Kohala Suites. You don't get the access to the Hilton pools, but we're not huge pool people (we prefer the beach) so that's never been important to us.

Bay Club is a great place to relax. I own 3/4 weeks of the biggest 2 bdr penthouses. There are peek-a-boo ocean glimpses from building 3, 2 bdr penthouses. Big lanais (650 sq ft).

Think large 2 bdr apartment. Lovely to have the morning coffee on the lanai as the sun comes over the volcanoes. . . .

Note: Kohala suites and Bay Club are Siamese twins. They share the same check-in and amenties.

If you crave space (1484sqft), a huge lanai, and your own carport, you really can't beat the Bay Club Villas. We're heading back to one in May :)

The square Bay club pool is one of the deepest pools on the Hilton properties, if that's a consideration ... the Ocean tower adult pool is the other. Both are around 6 feet deep, at the deep end.

The Ocean Tower Pool was under refurbishment went we were there in May. Now sure if its back open,. Its possible they won't reopen it until the Timeshare conversion is finished, as they working their way around the rings towards to pool area. Lots of construction materials stacked around the pool when we were there.

We just got back from the BI - if you are referring to the pool outside of the Ocean Tower, it is open but the work is not finished. It looks like crap - some of the pool surface looks good, most is rough and patchy with some areas covered with rubber mats. Thinking they opened it for the Labor Day rush then will close again to finish the work.

The Ocean Tower Adult pool i was referring to is located inside the front ring of the ocean tower. That pool has always been the "quiet / Adult pool" for the resort.

We experienced the same thing with the pool just outside the Ocean Tower as you did. It could use a resurfacing. Hopefully Parc Hotels, (owner of the resort) will continue to make improvements to the resort with the funds they are generating by selling off the units to HGV.

We weren't staying at the Ocean Tower, so we didn't use that inside pool - but we did see it on the Disney boat ride and it looked to be open.

We walked over to Ocean Towers from the Bay Club today. It looks like most of the resurfacing is complete. There was one area closest to the ocean near the towel service area that was still in need of repair. The rubber mats were gone when we walked through. We did not walk inside the front ring to look at the adult pool.
