Which one?

I'm new here, so be gentle

I used to have a Starwood Vistana Villages TS(divorce, lost it) and am seriously considering another TS, but not sure which company to go with. Marriott, HGVC, or Wyndham. I'm leaning toward Wyndham.

We like to go different places, not the same place annually, and really like to do long weekends not necessarily a whole week.

If there is an existing thread that discusses this, please don't hesitate to let me know. (Which, btw, does not seem to be a problem on this site)

On another note, I would like to say, the information and the help on this site is invaluable and I have seen nothing like it, so thank you for keeping this up and running.

Looks like a resale Wyndham would fill the bill for you- given where you live and wanting to exchange more than simply have one 'home' resort to return to. I don't own there, and there is a bit of learning curve, but it's probably no different than any other system.

I was thinking the same thing. I've been trying to educate myself quite a bit and it seems as if Wyndham would give me the most flexibility.

I always suggest renting at all of your potential options before making a purchase...and you might just find that renting every year is a better option that buying at all! =)

For your vacationing style, a points-based system would be preferable. Where do you want to vacation?

Have you looked at the locations of resorts within the systems you are considering? I like the Wyndham resorts a lot. Other points-based systems with resorts in the southeast and Florida (drivable from FL) might include HGVC as you mentioned, as well as BlueGreen, Diamond (is it still called that?) and Disney/DVC, maybe others. Just depends on where you want to stay.

Hilton could fit the bill for you and they have a lot of affiliates in Florida. I guess it depends on what you like to do on vacation. You can pull up the maps for locations of all the systems you are interested in. With Hilton, you can book as short as 3 nights, beginning any of night of the week. I think Wyndham requires check in to be on certain days of the week.

Yes, this is the operative term, PRIME. In other seasons it is usually allowed to check in any day of the week that is available. For example, last year I spent 10 days at Wyndham Ocean Walk (Daytona Beach). I made 2 five day reservations back to back and checked in on a Wednesday. This was in October, so not prime season.

I did not have to move (possible with a split reservation like that) and I had an oceanfront unit.

So it all depends on when and where you want to go.

Thanks so much for everyone's response. It is one of the reasons I joined, because everyone is so helpful.

Lisa P, we like going all over, not necessarily Florida. We tend to be very active and enjoy a lot of outdoor activities. But I have to say I am a hotel snob After owning a timeshare, its easy to get spoiled.

I am looking at a 2br somewhere for when we have the kids, but don't necessarily care about the home resort as long as I can trade to other places.

I've gone to a couple of Diamond presentations and I have to say, they really put me off. So, they are out.

Right now, it is a toss up, but to me, it seems as if Wyndham has more flexibility than HGVC, but I really like both of them. It APPEARS that Wyndham points on the resale seem to be more prevalent than HGVC but I could be totally wrong.
