Not sure if this is in the right section but...

looking for recommendations for any Hawaii properties that trade through RCI with the following requirements in order of importance.

1. AWESOME beach.
2. Possible surfing.
3. at least 3.5 "star" level
4. good pool area for kids.

Generally, Most people here do not recommend buying a Hawaiian TS with the idea you'd want to trade with it. This is because most Hawaiian TS have pretty high MFs (maintenance fees) and therefore it is better to buy a TS in Hawaii that you want to use not trade.

For many people that means buying a EOY (every other year) TS

OR many people buy a point based TS that has resorts in many different places. So use your points and go to Hawaii BUT also use your points and go to the many other resorts in the system. (Hilton is one option among many here)

BUT to answer your question in RCI: Hilton and Wyndham are the first that come to mind.

Re Hilton -HGVC as great resorts in Hawaii but you can buy Vegas or Orlando and use points to go to Hawaii and pay significantly less in maintenance fees.

Agree with Bill - If you don't want to go to Hawaii every year, buy an every other year deed. If you don't want to go at least every other year, then just rent.

or are you just looking at what to request through RCI for exchange using something else?

Just because something exchanges through RCI doesn't mean it will become available in a size or season that you are interested in for the reasons mentioned why people don't buy those weeks to exchange.

Also both Hilton (with the exception of affiliate Bay Club) and Wyndham choose which weeks are deposited. Most Hilton;s have nice pool areas but not your number one requirement of an awesome beach at the resort itself.

An EOY is a good idea if you're plan is to use the timeshare as a trader. One recommendation if you want to use your unit personally is the Kaanapali Beach Club by Diamond Resorts. You can trade with RCI or Interval. The price compared to other timeshares is very reasonable, and it is right on the beach- you can literally walk just a few steps and onto the beach from the breakfast buffet area. The units are roomy and have been recently renovated. We own a unit and are in the process of purchasing another. We also own at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club, but we prefer to be at the KBC because of the location. It's also a quieter resort. There is a nice little restaurant and a snack bar onsite. The pool is beautiful and there is also a shallow children's pool with a great water slide. There is really good snorkeling right there, and there are many places very nearby as well. Black Rock is very close, and is one of my other favorite places to snorkel, where we have swum with turtles, which is a blast.

Best VALUE in Hawaii

I own a floating 1-52 every year timeshare in Waikiki. MF's are around $500 for a ST/1BR. If you stay there, which we do about once every 3-5 years, the parking is FREE for one car. Unheard of on the rest of Oahu!!!

It has a high TPU value with RCI . . . and it is a great private rental unit as well. We could not be happier with our ownership at Lifetime in Hawaii.

If you are interested in buying there, you should be able to pick up a week or two (or more!) for around $1,500 to $3,000 through their offices in California. If you want more info, private message me.

I'm still not sure whether the OP is looking to buy a timeshare, or is looking for one to trade into via RCI. jc92869, can you clarify?

OP here.
Hello. thank you for all the great responses.

I am not looking to buy, but rather trade into. I have a VVP and have banked a couple of points. I'm looking to vacation in Hawaii sometime in 2016, and i'm wondering what i should be doing ongoing-searches on.

So far i hear Hilton and Wyndham. any others?

Add DVC's Aulani, but not sure how many points that takes. It doesn't have surfing in front of resort, but has the beach and some other onsite activities.

Just so you know, in the vernacular, a "trader" is a good timeshare to deposit and use for exchanges. That's why we responded the way we did.

You should put in your OGS's as early as possible - you want them in place BEFORE the deposits start coming in. So you should put them in ASAP!

I also suggest that you browse the TUG Hawaii ratings and reviews to pick out resorts - you want to put in a broad request for as many dates and resorts as possible: http://www.tug2.com/BrowseResorts.aspx?Hawaii | All Resorts&area=3

Looking to trade INTO Hawaii? Hope you have a ton of points/TPUs.

You should be fine with that.

Yes, if you're talking TPU's I agree . . . if that is how many RCI points, I have no clue since I don't trade in that denomination.
