I'm figuring it's time to start looking for car rentals for end of April. There are so many here on TUG that own there and trade there. Which company did you find offered the best price? Is there any hidden charges you weren't expecting? (In PV the mandatory ins. was as much as the car rental) Thanks!

cruise stop

I've never stayed on Aruba... we've only been there on cruise stops.

But the island is small... does one really need a car?

After reading the many, many posts from those that go to Aruba the answer seems yes. They say many of the restaurants are far enough away getting a taxi just for that would be more than a rental car.

We always rent from Economy. I understand that Tropical is a good company. I tried to book with them for our trip but I was too late--- so Economy has my business again this yr.

We always rent a car. It is very easy to get around and there is so much to see on the island.

We always rent from Amigo. They are located at the airport. They provide great service and prices.

We rent from whomever offers the best price. Be sure to compare apples to apples as not all include spouse as a driver and will charge extra. Also, only a handful are now located at the airport. You will pay for the convenience if renting from an agency located at the airport vs. one from off-airport location.

We, too, use Hans at Tropic. Really like the convenience of being met at the airport and getting to the car without waiting in line. Returns have been just as quick and easy. Price is competitive and we never had a problem with the cars from Tropic (can't say the same for Economy or Budget).

I went to the Tropic website and it looks like they only have Yaris'. Is that true? We will have 4 people. We rented a Yaris in St. Thomas, but there were only 2 of us. I wouldn't want to try to put 4 people in it.

We always rent a Yaris. Our son is over 6 feet tall and is fine in the back. When both our adult sons used to join us the Yaris was fine.

I believe we have gotten a Yaris, a Kia and a Suzuki. All of them are similar in size.

I rented from National during our trip there in October. I'm an Executive Club member, which at least in the US, lets me choose the vehicle I want for basically paying the intermediate rate. That didn't happen in Aruba, I ended up with a Mitsubishi Lancer. It was definitely larger than the Yaris's and other small vehicles commonplace in Aruba. Except for the car rental companies that bring the car to you, they all seemed to be right across the entrance from the airport (ie. less than 100' from the doors).

And if there was a question, I'd say yes, definitely get a rental car. Prices weren't prices weren't bad, driving is easy, and there are enough places worth driviing to that it's better than trying to do taxi's everywhere.

We (also) use Hans at Tropic. Have tried others, but Hans, we think is the best. We have never had a problem with size of the Yaris, four of us, of which two are over 6-02.
