I am looking for getaways for September and trying to decide where would be a good place to visit. My choices are Orlando or Phoenix or Palm Dessert. What are some opinions on these areas. I am looking at Marriott mostly. I would really like Orlando, but am concerned about the weather. Any info on this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Deb

September and Orlando usually = VERY HOT. We did it once and won't do it again. You could aim for the Carolina's, though the risk of hurricanes is greater.

Phoenix and Palm Springs / Palm Desert are also very hot in September.

The Pacific Coast -- anywhere from San Diego to Vancouver -- is usually excellent in September, but don't venture too far inland.

Shhhh, don't tell anybody- September is darn near perfect hereabouts. We're trying to keep it for ourselves.

While I wouldn't book the Outer Banks in September or October, HHI is still beautiful and warm that time of year, with a very low hurricane risk. Myrtle Beach, not so much...

New England is also beautiful. I love Maine in the fall!

Yes I would agree. I had never really spent any time in the Northwest until we moved here last July. I was blown away by how nice September is in the Northwest.

No Marriott's, but I've stayed in Seaside Oregon at the Worldmark resort (thanks to some friends on TUG) and it was very nice.

Go for Orlando. Yes, its hot! but we have plenty of pools in some great resorts to cool off in. Thats part of the fun.

Compared to Phoenix and Palm Desert, Orlando has more stuff to do. Its not the #1 vacation spot in the USA for nothing.

I love Hilton Head in September - warm days, warm ocean temps, nights cool enough for a light jacket, no crazy crowds like during high season, no hour+ waits for restaurants ... and day trips to Savannah or Charleston are much more comfortable.

We try for a week late September/early October every year and have seen a few intense storms over the past few years, but none of our weeks have been wash-outs.

Some other places

Palm Desert and Phoenix can be very hot in Sept. But, that's why they made misters and swimming pools for....

How about San Diego?
How about Big Bear, California?
Yes, Tahoe is beautiful and great that time of year....
June Lake (in the boonies but nice weather)
Wine Country Ca?
Sedona, Az (might still be a bit warm but its higher in altitude than Phoenix...)

Both of these locations have a substantial number of timeshares and can often be purchased as a low cost "Getaway" or "Last Call".

Park City is beautiful in Sept and probably pretty easy to get as a getaway or exchange.

The Big Apple

I know its not the three you named but since your from Connecticut its a drive.

We'll be in NYC the last week of August and first week of September. We are going for the US Open Tennis Tournament, the weather is great that time of year too.

We're staying a week at the Manhattan Club and 3 nights at the St. Regis, it will be our first time to both properties.

I'll be at Newport Coast Villas the second week in September. Grabbed a 2br as an instant exchange in II.

The West Coast is beautiful in September. I always suggested friends visit in the fall not the spring (June Gloom). Most people don't realize that the spring May/June are not the best times on the coast due to fog being sucked inland off the coast. By September the weather has stablized and it's very nice.

You did say Marriotts but you didn't say what your weather concerns were.... hurricanes and/or heat?

I'd go to Breckenridge, Lake Tahoe, or Park City. If later in September then Williamsburg, Myrtle Beach, or HHI. Although HHI still might be a bit hot and humid.

Orlando is nice in Sept cause the pools are still great and the kids are back in school. It's also the start of the Epcot Food & Wine festival. ;)

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/special-events/

We were at Epcot last year for the Food and Wine Festival. I have never seen so much liquor for sale out in the open in ANY Disney resort! Yikes! Weather was fabulous (late October) and I was walking all over - no cane, walker, etc. (too bad that did not last . . ). We are going to Park City this September; my good friend moved there from here (NY state) to be a geriatric ski bunny - she is here getting a new hip this week. She says it is perfect then - no skiers, no film festival - we have the run of the place. We are staying in town. I am originally from the Cape Cod area and the ocean finally starts to get warm in September - we used to go to the beach as families every day, as soon as the parents got home from work!

As retired teachers, we avoid kids in large doses now. KIDS are fine when they are in our class (and we were cool teachers who took kids to Broadway shows, Yankees games, etc.) - but when semi-quasi-not-so-much *supervised by ineffective parents? No thanks . . . I think our favorite thing about retirement is being able to travel when we choose; although we still are actively professionally in classical music, we can make our own schedules - which beats having a new class walk in the door every 46 minutes.

Going to Ft. Lauderdale in November - water is still warm, but humidity is less - and we get to enjoy the gorgeous Fall in the Adirondacks and Catskills here. Cannot invite ENOUGH of you to come on up - and then return if you SKI!

Marriott Newport Coast Villas. Best time of the year to go. Low crowds because school is already in and its probably the best time of the year weather wise!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Tonight I was looking at a getaway at the Royal Hacienda in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. We went there last December and I do love it there but I am a little concerned about hurricane season in September. I can also get airline tickets with points:) It might be worth it as long as we take some insurance. Has anyone been there in September? I also hear that the Royal's will be all inclusive after October which would make it much more expensive to go there after that. We usually grocery shop and eat a lot of meals in the room which saves quite a lot. Oh damn! I am addicted to traveling:D Boy, do I wish we had the resources and time off from work to travel more; but don't we all:(

S. CA (near beach) would be nice, and Hilton Head, SC is somewhat hot and humid, but still ok.
I liked Aspen, CO in September. No humidity and still warm and sunny.

Finally made a decision

Well I know I was inquiring about destinations in the US and Marriotts, but I found a getaway on II for Alexandria Resort in Turks & Caicos in September and I couldn't talk myself out of it. I know it is hurricane season, but I still couldn't resist. I know that it is a very difficult resort to get into. I did buy insurance through Jet Blue with Allianz when I booked my tickets but does anyone have any suggestions as to other insurance I should get? I am excited to go somewhere new and looking forward to diving there. Now the weather just has to cooperate;) I was able to get airline tickets with points which was the only way we would be able to do the trip. This will be our third out of four trips that we will take in 2012. If it wasn't for time sharing and airline points, we would never be able to travel this much. I am certainly loving it! Wish we could travel even more but I am grateful for the trips we are able to take. I am glad my husband enjoys all the vacations I plan as much as I do. I get four weeks vacations a year and my husband gets five.
