We had plans to visit Sanibel in March and our accommodations were wiped out by hurricane Ian. As a backup, I have booked Wyndham Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach, but I'm not really sure where to go in Florida. We are not into nightlife or amusement parks and were looking forward to experiencing nature on sanibel.

After sanibel, we have planned to head to Grand Cayman via Miami. We have been to the Everglades and to the Keys, and would prefer someplace new in Florida. (We will already be spending a week in Jacksonville visiting our son who is there on temporary assignment and we'll visit St Augustine during that week.)

Where would you go in FL if you were nature lovers?

On the west coast, I would say Tarpon Springs, Weeki Wachi and Crystal River. You can kayak the rivers and even snorkel with the manatees. The Anclote river is also beautiful

On the east coast the Hutchinson island area is pretty. We huddled from the approaching hurricane in Jensen Beach.

The upper west coast is known as the nature coast in Florida.

Sanibel is special, but Florida is full of other gorgeous areas for nature lovers: preserves, natural springs, etc abound. A few are

Cocoa Beach: spend time at Merritt Island wildlife refuge, and there are other beautiful preserves in the area as well.

Cedar Key: old Florida, you can reach Crystal River as suggested above, and many beautiful preserves.

Sebastian and Indian River area on east coast.

Near the sea.
Anywhere near Boyton Beach. There are several wonderful nature preserves. Wakodahatchee and Green Cay and Loxahatchee.
