Both American and Continental arrive at the same terminal in Cabo (San Jose del Cabo to be exact) and that is terminal one.

Since I always arrive on Alaska Airlines at terminal three, I don't know the exact set-up of the other terminals. But, if it's anything like terminal three you'll go through customs first, retrieve your luggage at baggage claim, and then exit. The car rental desks are by baggage claim in terminal three so if that's the set-up in the other teminal that would be a convenient place to meet. It's not a huge terminal so I would imagine if you are standing by ANY car rental desk you'll find each other. I think there is an Avis desk, though.

Avis does not maintain an operations desk in the terminals at this time. They are located just off airport property and shuttle customers back and forth. Just pick up your bags, go thru Customs and proceed directly outside where the shuttles and taxis are lined up. Politely ignore the people that want to "help" you (unless you want to buy more timeshares) and flag the Avis Van driver when he comes around. If you reserved a car, he'll have you on his pick-up list.

On a slightly different note, which car rental company is preferred in Cabo? I remember one of the companies doesn't push for extra insurance (I think it's Avis) but I am not sure...

Just stand by any of the car rental booths and you'll most likely see your friends. The airport's not that big.

In my experience Avis is one company that doesn't pressure you for extra coverage. I hear National is another. Avoid LDW/CDW...that coverage is a scam all car rental agencies try to saddle you with...in Mexico and in the US.

Like Karen mentioned, Terminal #1 isn't that big. If your friends are arriving at the same time, no problem. You deplane outside and enter the Immigration line just inside the terminal; from there you go to baggage claim and that's the best place to meet your friends. Don't go through the Customs Red/Green light area until you meet up with your other party. Two walls of the bag claim room have booths for car rentals (Most will be deserted), so find one, kick back, and wait for your friends; the room is small enough that you can't miss them.
