We will be vacationing in Cabo in December via Alaska Air from San Jose, CA. The window to buy tickets opens in a couple of days and the fare appears to be $398 plus taxes and fees for a total of approximately $515.

For those who travel to Cabo, is it best to buy tickets now or do they usually offer discounted fares at some point in the future? We will be using a companion coupon for $99, so we will get almost 50% off as it is.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Alaska usually has Cabo sales sometime in January or February. I would watch for them for a couple months. Trouble is their sales are usually good for 3 months or so. December is not a busy season so you should have no trouble getting seats later on.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I have seen some of their emails with sales and as you mentioned, they are usually for a couple months out. I will keep watching them.

We fly to Cabo on Alaska Airlines twice a year out of the Bay Area (usually SFO) so I'm always watching the fares. Unless you hit one of the specials with limited dates, the price you gave isn't too far from the best I've seen. I think the best you could expect would be tickets around $50 less than the price you gave. I've also found the price is often a little better out of SFO than San Jose or Oakland. Since we drive down from the Sacramento area it doesn't matter too much airport we fly out of. Like you, we often use our companion pass so $50 split 2 ways is only $25 per ticket.

I bought tickets for our jan 2012 dates back in Oct. 2011. The fare was about $450 from San to Cabo. Ugh. I used Yapta to watch the fare and it went down $83 for ONE day, Cyber Monday. Otherwise the fare remained the same for the entire period from Oct through January. I was able to get a credit on Alaska, and FYI, the credits can be combined and/or used by someone other than the ticket holder.

Alaska has a great credit policy. I always keep an eye on my booked trips and have received refunds several times.

Thanks for everyone's responses. The window for our trip is coming up next weekend, so I will probably go ahead and book the flight and then watch for changes on Yapta.
