I do wonder about the "potent flu season" thing though-many don't get the test for the flu either, and assume the diagnosis based off symptoms.
https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2020/01/cdc-flu-activity-high-across-much-us. Dr Fauci said in very early January this was shaping to be a rather bad flu season.
Seems flu testing started to increase later in the winter r/t Covid-19. They also didn't know to test for CV19 in December and January...

This winter/spring are going to be studied for quite a while.
