I usually have my daughter join me at my PV timeshare over Thanksgiving.
I usually fly Frontier from Denver nonstop for @ $350RT.
She comes in from Santa Barbara with one stop for @$400 or gets a nonstop from LAX.

I've been trying to book and all of the nonstops from LAX are over $1000 as are the 1 stop (with up to 18hours of layover) from Santa Barbara. JEEZLOUIS.

I have to adjust the days I fly from Denver because November is still 'seasonal' for Frontier and they don't have daily flights. That flight's gone up about $100 which I can handle...but what is going on with flights to PV from LAX?????

Do you think that after labor day there will be any fall sales? Or has oil prices and the economy made such typical sales out of the ??

Well, we live outside Pgh and fly on American every year to PV. We booked several months ago and got about the same price as previously ($750) round trip, BUT we have 2 stops coming home, through Mexico City and then Dallas. the price for our regular 1 stop was over $1300. I believe that oil prices have resulted in high plane fares which I doubt will come down. I would not wait much longer for tickets over thanksgiving

CO Belle...

I live in Denver also and we travel to PV every October. This year the airfare is terrible!! So high! I usually wait until about now to get a good fare. I panicked about a month ago while looking at $1200 Frontier fares. I booked US Airways for $495. It is not non-stop. We have to go through Phoenix both ways. Not great flight times either. We am spoiled by United and Frontier non-stops! So, we will grit our teeth when it comes time for our 6 AM departure. And if Frontier drops the price, I will kick myself!! Good luck!

I also tried to book airfare from SFO to PV leaving Oct 25th. Airfares were well over $800. I have never paid more than $425 at the most. I had to cancel my week at the Grand Mayan which I exchanged thru SFX and book at my resort (Villa Del Palmar) which offers multi-day check in. So I am now leaving Oct 27th and returning Nov 3rd. This still cost me over $500. Thank goodness my husband has a Alaska Visa which gives us a $50 companion fare each year. What they didn't mention was that you also have to pay the taxes. So it cost me $152 for the second flight. It was better than two at over $500. We fly direct from San Francisco to PV. I kept reserving the flight each night while on hold, hoping it would go down, but of course it went up, so I had to book at my reserved amount.

I seriously doubt there will be any sales....unless it's very last minute because the flights are not full due to the prices. I am also visiting over Thanksgiving. Luckily I booked my flights almost a year ago when I received my confirmation for the GM Nuevo Vallarta. I paid 360.00 non stop LAX to PVR. I remember having to talk myself in to paying the 360.00...since other flights were running about 260.00 at the time. I convinced myself by saying it's a 100.00 premium for the holiday. Now, I feel extremely fortunate to have paid that.

Well, the airline has already ceased flying the non stop, I am now routing through PHX which is of course flying "backward" for me. The second itinerary was also rescheduled just a few days ago. It's down to two flights out of LAX that will connect with the PVR flight in PHX. I'll be happy if I even have a flight come Nov at this rate. I had asked to be rerouted departing Ontario and they said they would be happy to do that if I paid the difference. It was about 1100.00 per ticket :hysterical:

I watch this route constantly...unfortunately there have been no deals since oil prices started escalating. Good luck...I hope you find something.

I think we are going to hear much more about Flight price nightmares. For those of you that booked a year in advance does the luggage charge appy to you. To make a point on the last post last year Frontier cancel the flight we were scheduled on and tried to put us on the eraly 6am I said we wanted the 10 am flight with kids much easier when traveling if they are rested and they wanted to charge me extra I spoke with a supervisorand escalated it several levels and we got the 10 am flight at no addition charge. I would try to contact them its bad enough you went from having a non stop to one layover its the least they can do. We have gone to Mx several years at spring break and flights are never on sale then I started looking at flights in Nov when i thought about it and a few months ago i started looking daily they were running between 700-800 then out of the blue I saw they were 477 including taxes I booked them and havent seen a cheaper price yet last I checked they were 900 on day then 1200. I think thats why you see some many time shares for sale in addition to the unit exchange fees food and tours when your there flights are just getting riduculus :bawl:

I was able to book RT SFO to Cancun (April 2 - 12) this morning for under $370. Of course, the return requires an overnight stay in LAX. We'll use starpoints for an airport hotel.

I guess I stumbled onto a good deal then. I'm looking at PV during spring break in the end of march and Mexicana has a $525 round trip. I guess I should book it now!

Spring Break

I guess I stumbled onto a good deal then. I'm looking at PV during spring break in the end of march and Mexicana has a $525 round trip. I guess I should book it now!

Last spring, with Easter being very early, there was no standardized "Spring Break" week. Our schools were out mid-April and I booked a package from SFO- PV with 5 nights at an all-inclusive resort, for $550 pp on American.

I watched the prices throughout the month of February. Some went up, some down, and a couple of hot airfares came and went. But this particular package stayed the same on Travelocity through mid-March, when I booked it.

So I'm just saying consider a package.

The prices to PV from the south of the US were so high, and since we stay in Seattle a lot, I booked through there via Delta for much lower prices.

boy, you're not kidding. We decided to do a last minute Thanksgiving trip to Playa del Carmen. Have a unit on hold but the airfares are outrageous! Frontier is $1345!!!!!! I think the 'best' I've found so far is around $645 and that's with an overnight flight.

Sometimes it works to book a package and not use the hotel. On Expedia you can do a package and specify the nights you want a room. You can use the room to arrive a day early/leave late or just not use it. It has only worked once for us b/c with a family of five, hotels usually require us to book a suite or 2 rooms which doesn't save us anything in long run.

Thanks for all the tips and good for those of you who booked well in advance and got decent fares.

I had to work at it but I found LAX-PVR with good connections in Guadalajara on Aeromexico for $560 incl taxes. She leaves at just after midnight and gets in at 7:30am...so for what it's worth, she gets a free day. Don't book AeroMex on their direct site...much more expensive!

I booked Denver to PVR for $435 nonstop on Frontier. I think I had United for less, but then I waited too long and it was gone.

In all, I had an Orbitz credit that I used on kids fare and a Frontier credit I used on my fare....$100 each, which took a little of the pain out of it.

What was really so obnoxious was that the high fares came with horrid connection times (like up to 11 hours or overnight in Mexico City). I usually stay 3 weeks for for my kiddo, that takes up too much of her week vacation to be worth it.

Next year I might have to exchange PV to Hawaii...she can fly out of LAX cheaper to Hi than PVR. Yikes!

We are heading to Cancun for the week this Thanksgiving as well (flying from Denver). We had the "luxury" of knowing before 331 days out. Frontier started at $700+ for their direct flights, and only went up from there. United was about the same as Frontier the whole time. About a month and a half into the searching, American came in with a 1-stop (Dallas) flight with decent times for about $420. I grabbed it, and haven't seen anything less since.

When I looked in August last year I could have flown non-stop last Thanksgiving week for about $450 on Frontier or United. This year that same Frontier flight is $1579 when searching now in August (3.5X), and United doesn't event have a direct flight now. Ouch.

Kurt...I'm pretty sure that MLT flies charters Denver to Cancun with air only sometimes for $99. Haven't looked at this years prices...and that doesn't include tax, but it is an option. Used to do charter to PVR too, but that stopped about 3 years ago.

Spent the whole day Sunday and yesterday trying to find airfares. I had to compromise and fly in a day early or pay over $700 pp. I'll be suffering through the 6:00 am flight too but at least coming back home it's a nice afternoon time.... Got American Airlines for $433 pp (used Entertainment coupon for 5% off which I didn't even know about until the lightbulb in my brain went off at 10:30 pm!). We fly through Dallas. Direct would've been great but not at $700+ pp. I think I did pretty good considering it's less than three months away and this morning it was $577 pp.

Now I have to find a hotel in Cancun for one night

Have you considered breaking up your flights with two different airlines? I needed to book from Norfolk, VA to Cancun and rates were coming back around $750-$800 RT on all of the major carriers, even after searching all of the discount engines. I ended up flying ORF-Orlando on Southwest for about $160 RT, then Orlando to Cancun on Jet Blue for about $250 RT...total of $410- almost 1/2 as much as using the same carrier.

That may have been true for other years, but I just looked and the only MLT flights for Thanksgiving week this year are $729 RT. If I picked an earlier week in November, they were a little over $600.

But I will keep MLT in mind for future trips. Thanks for the pointer!

I made the mistake of checking prices for the flight I already booked two days ago. Of course the fairs went down but not enough for a credit... I know better than to look

When I log into to site to find deals like these, they never seem to have them.

Just go directly to aa.com and do a search for flexible dates within the time period. I found a lot of availability. Just remember that the fares quoted are each way and exclude taxes, which, on flights to Mexico, are quite high. So, a $95 fare from LAX to Cabo is $294 round trip, with taxes.
