What's a shill?

Not saying this is shill posting. If it is, how are negative posts like this good for these outfits? Any publicity is good publicity?

Just bringing this up because we have seen these in the past where first time posters who signed up on the BBS the same day they posted are likely to be shills.

And i totally agree (usually) that any publicity is good publicity but how could this be seen as good publicity to anyone???? not only are they con artists but they look to be thugs too! I thought this was a place to share my experiences, so i was sharing. I've read plenty of information here and for once i wanted to post and it made me register in order to post... so i registered.

I don't think anybody suggested you're a shill -- I believe the shill reference was to belle_ame.

A shill in TUG-BBS parlance is somebody who signs up with TUG-BBS pretending to be a regular walking-around person, but who's really an employee or owner or some such of the company that the shill is writing about in the shill's very 1st TUG-BBS entry.

It's not that newbies aren't welcome here -- they are, bigtime. It's just that for most of us it takes a while to get to know 1 another, & there's always a question of whether a 1st timer is or is not what he or she represents himself or herself to be.

Not only that, there's a fair amount of advertising spam that lands here -- much of it filtered out before anybody sees it & the rest commonly getting caught & quickly called to the attention of the Grand Pro for erasure.
