Marty, I was under the impression that January/February were pretty rainy in Hilton Head, is that not the case? That is an interesting points opportunity, thank you for sharing!
Best, Greg
Not for Jan/Feb..........for example, my wife is a tennis player and Jan & Feb are the months she loves being there to participate in the FREE daily clinics
which the two Grande Ocean tennis pros conduct. That time is wonderful for the 20-25+ participants who register and show up each morning.
Most of those friends are "snow birds" and return every year, going on 20 years now. It's awesome.
It's become a special camaraderie that brings everybody back year after year, and they adore it, and do many other activities together too.
If it were rainy then, the place would be empty! It does rain every now and then, but totally unpredictable and short-lived. As "jont" says, it's hit and miss.
We are usually there 2 weeks in January and 2 weeks in February EVERY year----no ownership weeks but we do use points or other extra means.
Actually more enjoyable than our several June weeks.
Hilton Head doesn't have a so-called "rainy season", such as we know to be characteristic of tropical or exotic locations like the Virgin Isles, Hawaii, or Aruba, etc.
For Hilton Head, there are 5 months that have
higher average precipitation than January and February.
Far and away the rainiest month is August, and even then it's not like a set-in-stone cycle that is predictable every year in the standard definition
of a "rainy season", but more dependent on the randomly occurring high temperatures that summer can bring.
There are hot Augusts and there are
really hot Augusts, but strangely enough we've experienced mild Augusts too,
and therefore the "summer showers" don't materialize so much.
We've run the gamut on weather at HH......very hot Augusts and mild Junes, or very hot Junes and mild Augusts. It's crazy.
July can have a string of over-95 degree temps that can last for 20 days, or it can rain every day for 2+ weeks, but it's never the same from year to year.
One never knows, but when it is rainy, it's usually a short afternoon shower rather than an all-day thing.
It's absolutely typical for all southern states, not just South Carolina.
Florida, for example, is much more predictable as to rain patterns that "stay on schedule"-----In the summer, rain and storm cells are ALWAYS crossing Florida,
usually in the afternoons.
Since they're fast-moving, the rain usually lasts an hour or so, and it's gone, and the sun comes out and you wouldn't know it even rained
except for the steamy aftermath.
See this precipitation chart for Hilton Head........Jan and Feb are truly hit & miss, with no real patterns.
Temps are all over the place too...it can be in the 30s or it can be in the 70s.
