We have had a Delta Amex Gold card that’s carries a $99 annual fee. I asked Amex about it as we won’t be flying Delta probably until 2022 or later and the rep suggested downgrading to their Blue card. No annual fee and they would refund a prorated portion of the fee we already paid. We did it and received a refund of $74. We can switch back down the road or perhaps just apply for a new Gold card if we can receive a mileage bonus. I believe there has to be a certain amount of time between canceling and applying. Food for thought.

Best regards.

Mike

Interesting.... I called Jet Blue this past week to see if they would waive the $99 yearly fee... no, was the answer. I then asked if I could cancel the card and downgrade to a no-fee card and receive a prorated refund of the already paid amount. Again, the answer was NO. I escalated the conversation with a supervisor, again, NO.
