The laws I find problematical are the laws that allow a man to use a women's restroom. This has only really affected us once when my niece and her friends were using a public restroom. A man entered the restroom and when confronted by a n angry father , more of less said it was legal for him to do so. I asked my niece what had happened and she said the man was staring at the girls and didn't use the toilet.

Myrtle Beach -- No private umbrellas closer to the beach than the concessionaire's.
They said it was an ordinance, but then, they may have been blowing smoke.
.
I think this line in the ordinance is why you are told that
“Established umbrella lines. Any shading devices, or other obstructions that impeded upon the franchisee's established umbrella line may be moved landward of the established umbrella line.”

these are the actual rules

right, and in Virginia Beach you must firmly implant your beach umbrella in the sand

The umbrella/tent issue is a safety one...when the wind blows, those things become pretty lethal projectiles to others on the beach.

Another Pennsylvania classic - We used to have to get our cars safety inspected TWICE A YEAR! Your windshield sticker had a number on it from 1 to 4 telling which quarter you expired. Odd numbers 1st and 3rd quarter, even numbers 2nd and 4th. What a HASSLE! And you still saw cars with only 1 headlight. Down here we don't even have inspections.

Auto inspections date from an era before national safety standards and agencies to enforce them.
Some states are just reluctant to admit that today's vehicles are safe and meet emission standards.

Places that don't allow alcohol on public beaches. It's just so, so wrong.
I used to have a couple friends who were lifeguards at a beach with heavy wave action. They said a substantial number of people who drown are intoxicated, despite the fact that it is illegal to drink on the beach. The rule is in place to help with water safety.

I understand your point, but that's really not the reason in general. In most cases, where it is illegal to drink alcohol in public, it simply translates to public beaches. That's why places with private beaches allow it. There's a lot of money in selling booze at the beach.
