Hello! Found this forum after buying a Wyndham Bonnet Creek retail in November and successfully rescinding after some research. We loved the resort, loved the idea of timesharing. We are still interested in buying, but not sure which would be our best option. I know you guys collect the figures - the contract we rescinded was $19k for 154,000 points (plus a bunch of bonuses). Hoping you all can help us decide, or if we should continue renting as the best option.

1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where? Orlando/Clearwater - we live near Tampa and have Disney Annual Passes. We like to visit Orlando and the beach for long weekends. Other destinations in Florida are also on the list but these two are within reasonable driving range.

2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Both, would depend on the year. Would likely spend at least one weekend at home resort each year

3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Miami
St Augustine
Sarasota/Keys
Vegas
NJ/NY
+ explore other places we haven't been yet

4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself? 3

5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule? currently no school schedule, but have a 3 year old so will have to take that into account in a few years.

6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance? yes, but currently do not.

7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? we can, but prefer not to. If we vacation for a full week, it would be to someplace we couldn't drive. Prefer to take more 1-3 night trips to places within a driving distance. (which is why we moved to FL :))

8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars? 3-4 not super fancy, but clean and affordable

9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing? $3000

10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year? $1500

11) Are you a detail oriented planner? I can be when needed. We like a loose schedule though.

12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do? yes

Orlando has lots of Timeshares. Probably too many. You should be able to pick up something cheaply resell.

You probably will want to look at a points system as it will give you the flexibility to book shorter stays than a full week using a traditional timeshare. Given where you want to go, both Hilton and Wyndham might be suitable candidates. I would lean towards Hilton given the quality level and how well they treat resale owners. You should be able to possibly find a cheap resale for free or close to it if you are okay with higher MF/point.
