Currently have 7,000 annual HGVC points (Sea World but we never stay there). Frustrated with lack of options in warm places in the winter months and frustrated with continental US Gold Crown options in RCI. We bought our pts aftermarket and considering a non-HGVC aftermarket purchase that has better/additional options. I have heard that one of the options with Wyndham - perhaps others - is that I can use points to pay for VRBO house rentals. That would be great flexibility.
1) Is there a vacation destination you wish to visit most of the time or on a regular basis? if so where?
SE (Fort Lauderdale area) or SW FL (Fort Myers Beach) and New Orleans
2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
Assuming the new purchase is located in southern FL or New Orleans, we would stay at least half the time. Issue with the HGVC properties in SW FL, is that they are all affiliates and you can rarely book them if not deeded there.
3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Sonoma/Napa County; US Caribbean territories; Florida Keys; Arizona/New Mexico
4) How many people do you usually travel with - total, including yourself?
Typically 2
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
Can travel any time but mostly Nov - Mar
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Unlikely. Typically not more than 4 months ahead.
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
Yes
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
4 or 5
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
More of a value decision than affordability. Probably $5 - 10K.
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
$2000. Again, not an affordability issue.
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
Yes, but don't want to spend hours and hours to find a resort to book at.
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Absolutely
