This weekend when my daughter was home from college she said her sister could have all my jewelry, what she wants is the Marriott timeshare...cause we've had such great memories from our vacations. She also wants a week in hawaii for her honeymoon. So as far as the much debated value of timeshares..I would say a family with great times and memories makes it valuable to me.

My DS wasn't interested in TS till he got a stead GF. Now he thinks going to a nice resort with the GF sounds like a great vacation.

My oldest DD told me she would like to get married one day at Maui Ocean Club. I told her that we owned at Waiohai and that I liked Waiohai better.

That didn't change her mind. Who am I to argue? :D

We were able to gift DD a week at DVC OKW for her honeymoon (her choice) and DS a week at Aruba Surf Club. They were very grateful and have newfound appreciation for timeshare vacations. - Jacki

My young ones (3, 5, and 7) have known nothing BUT timeshares for our family vacations, so I know how quickly they get spoiled. We had to stay in a standard hotel one night, and no sooner had the luggage been put down than my oldest asks "where's the other rooms?"

My daughter wants our Kauai Beach Club week. Like your daughter she has many wonderful family vacation memories. I told her it may be a burden to her. That she may not want it. She asked me how she could ever vacation in a hotel. She said we spoiled her with our trips, staying in Marriott timeshares. She wants to get married in either Kauai or Maui. If her wedding is in Kauai, she wants to have it at the Hanalei Pier (fun memories jumping off) or the green church. She also mentioned the swinging bridge in Hanapepe.

Do you think the Hawaii addiction is hereditary?

Thanks for the laugh, this is great!

We were able to get 3 bedroom units twice at the Imperial Palms in Orlando, twice as gifts for our daughters. Both received these as graduation gifts for their spring break their senior year of college. My youngest and her pals drove from Minnesota to Orlando!! I hope they have great memories.

We own a 2 bedroom lock off so I told the girls they can each have it every other year or share it each year with one getting the 1 bedroom and 1 the lock off and reverse it the next year. (This is all after we're in the great timeshare in the sky). They'll share maintenance fees. It's a great gift to leave your children, I hope.

Us, too !!!

One interesting option someone mentioned to me was (for parents) to leave a small "pot" of funds (to the young ones inheriting the TS(s) ) which would generating some annual interest to help cover or at least offset a portion of the annual TS MF's. Now, THAT would be leaving a nice gift to your kids!

My kids too are spoiled. One year we extended out week in Orlando with a 5 night stay at in an efficiancy at Grande Visita for a very cheap getaway price (gave up 2 nights). I am NEVER again allowed to book an efficiancy for the 4 of us again....They miss the kitchen and extra bedrooms with the extra TV's along with the extra space. It just seemed so crowded since we are now used to a 2 BR condo.

We own 2 TS and only one is a lock off so the girls will have to figure out a way to share them when we are TS heaven.

My kids too. I'm so adamant about taking family vacations because when I was young being the youngest of seven I never got out of the tris-state area. I grew up low middle classs in a rich neighbor and I remember my friends going on these great trips with their families and me being so envious.

When we did go somewhere I remember sleeping in the car more than once because my dad, bless his heart, wouldn't pay for a room if we stopped past 7 pm.

Now my kids are going to Maui for the 6th time and if I considered staying in a hotel room for more than one night they would kill me.

Memories that your children remember are great. Our son has told my daughter that she can have our house if he gets the cottage....hmmm. When it comes to Timeshares, they are right onboard as now that they have children on their own, the Disney timeshare is in hot demand, followed closely by Beachplace Towers. Good thing is, they actually realize how lucky they have it

When I was little we thought it was HIGH CLASS she we stayed
in a holiday inn!
We own Marriott and DVC and my kids (and me) are sooooo spoiled.
We often say our DVC money was the best we ever spent, but with Marriott we have gone to Rome,Paris and London...wow!

2 of my daughters honeymooned, at different times, at the Kauai Marriott hotel on my points with business class air packages. They loved it and highly recommend it for a first time visit.

Each daughter is listed as co-owner with me on 3 of my 6 weeks bought directly so they each will inherit the ability to trade their week for points if they want. When the DC plan was announced and I was against it (still am) for me....and also with MF increases jumping way more than inflation with resale values in the toilet, I started to wonder if this 'gift' of eventual ownership was really something they wanted long term. So we had a family meeting as I was going to dump Marriott.

Surprisingly not one of them wanted me to sell. I probably will sell the 3 that I bought early in the game and are not co-owned, but did find it interesting that for one week a year they want them long term. Of course, once they inherit the anticipated $3,000 a week MF they may change their minds.

That's the way it worked out with my kids. They liked the idea of keeping the Weeks but had absolutely no interest in paying the MFs.
