I have a very nice exchange into a 2 bedroom at Maui Schooner in June. I have been very seriously considering cancelling this exchange and taking one of the Hyatts through RCI.

Does anyone else do this. Sometimes there are just too many tempting choices and as in this case I have an exchange that I think we will be very happy with where as the Hyatt is only a hotel unit - no kitchen and will cost me several hundred dollars more but I think, well I may not be able to get the Hyatt again...:annoyed: It like I have this little timeshare addict on my shoulder egging me on.....

I know that feeling ... We had every opportunity to exchange into the westin resort a couple of years ago but just thought the amenities (pool, restaurants, bars, grounds) looked better at the Hyatt so gave up space for perceived luxury. Of course, it helped that we qualified for club level at the Hyatt, which comes with wonderful breakfasts, happy hour, after dinner drinks/deserts, etc. It felt foolish not using a "prepaid" week, and I questioned the decision every time Starwood dumped weeks in II. But, in the end, we were happy with our decision - the Hyatt is a great resort in a great location.

I don't think you can go wrong either way ......

The Schooner and Hyatt at Ka'anapali would be a very different experience.
The beach in front of the Schooner is so so... The beach in front of the Hyatt is Ka'anapali.
The Hyatt would be a much more expensive week. But... it on Ka'anapali Beach, Lahaina is down the street and Whalers Village is up the walk, on the way to Black Rock.

For a first or second trip, the Schooner is centrally located and could save a lot of driving time. The resort is open and quiet.

Apples and oranges

We'd probably pick Ka'anapali.
With an ice chest ... most breakfast and lunch meals we could have in and save some money.
But we're not picky. Some Hawaiian coffee, fresh fruit, cheese, and stuff and we're good.

Could you do both and get the most out of your airfare?

I don't think that there is anything wrong with you, For next week, I had booked three different exchanges - Hilton Club in NYC, Marriott Fords Colony and some place in Virginia Beach. I got them in the reverse order ---

And where will we be going? Nowhere, Ian wants to stay home. I cancelled Hilton Club and Virginia Beach and bought a guest certificate for my kids in Williamsburg.

I think that it is smart to optimize your stay --- it is such a small portion of a travel budget and such a large part of the enjoyment of your trip.

Two trips ago to Hawaii we had 2 resorts for the same week (The Cliffs and Pahio beach club) I had tried to rent the cliffs but it never happened. So it was interesting having resorts on different parts of the island but found that we kept runnung into something that we needed was at the other resort.

My DH will never let me live it down.

Never having been to maui, I am thinking along the same lines that it might be nice to have an accomodation in each of the areas....this time I won't tell DH (He doesn't go to hawaii) if I decide to do it.

There are just so many resorts and so little time to experience it all!!!!!
