What is the deal with SBP RCI or II?

I am interested in SBP 2br lo EOY. I see in Ebay some of the ads say RCI. If I end up buying a unit that says trades in RCI do I have to join RCI (BARF):deadhorse: :deadhorse:

Obviously I want to stay away from RCI and stick to II.

Can someone please give me the scoop on this?

Thanks,

Bill

I don't think so. It's just used as a marketing tool to show how great it is -- "RCI GOLD" or whatever. If you buy SBP resale you can do whatever you want with it. I've reserved my resale SBP thru SVO and rented it. It's not in anyone's exchange company. Given the 3 day preference for Starwood I might get an II account for it if I couldn't rent it, but on the other hand I might try my luck with RCI to try other resorts that aren't in II....

If a resort is affiliated with RCI, you can't deposit it with II, and if it's affiliated with II, you can't deposit it with RCI. However, you can always deposit it with an independent exchange company. Some of the older resorts are dual affiliated or are changing from RCI to II - not sure about SBP.

I searched the RCI website and SBP is listed. But it's also listed on the II site. So why would a property limit itself to one? It's in the interest of the trading company and the property to be listed as broadly as possible. I can understand why the trading company might want exclusivity, but the property wants to be full, and broad availability through both would be to their advantage.

SVR is also listed on both....hmmmm....

I believe that some of the older resorts are still with RCI because the original developer was with RCI, but Starwood is definitely in bed with II. It is the nature of the industry to affiliate with one or the other exchange Co., but usually not both.

The choice is yours. If you purchased directly from the resort at this property and joined SVN, you would automatically have an II membership but also the choice to join RCI.

You can do what you want here. No worries

James,

I would never buy directly from the resort, I would only buy resale. So on a resale I could opt for II?

SBP, SDO and some of the Vistannas in Orlando are dual affiliated- it is your choice where u would like to deposit.
They are accepted in either exchange company plus the independents.

As it relates to purchasing at Myrtle Beach, SVN is Voluntary here so you would not get SVN unless you re-qual the week(s). Therefore, you can choose to have II or RCI here. If you purchase directly from the developer (which you do not intend to) and opt to join SVN, you WILL have an II membership paid for through your SVN membership dues; however, you can still elect to use RCI at the same time on your own.

I believe I said that above...

Be careful though because units that have been committed to RCI points are usually committed for 3 years and you CAN'T get them out, even as a new owner. I went through this in detail with a week I was trying to purchase but turned out to be in RCI (without anyone knowing). So when auctions say RCI be sure you want that 3 year committment...

It would be 'committed' to RCI points if u deposited with RCI BUT, if u deposited with SFX or DAE or II - it would be a 'week' deposit
