We got my wife's project #1 done today. We own 2 folding wood luggage racks that we use when packing and unpacking our suitcases. They came in large plastic bags as protective covers, but the plastic has ripped over the years. So my sweetheart decided that she wanted to build fabric covers for them. She bought some clearance fabric at Joanne's months (and months) ago, and the project just sat.

We got it done today. I had never used a serger before, but I trimmed and finished the fabric edges with a 4-thread overlock stitch. (I like tools, and that's quite a cool tool.) Then she stitched it all together with her sewing machine. It came out quite nice, especially because we were winging it without a pattern.

So now it's on to project #2. She has wanted to build a cover for my air compressor. She has the material. This project has been on hold for several years...

Well, today I'm working on putting in an offer to buy a house in Nevada. In checking back on real estate listings in an area we've been considering, I found a certain home we'd viewed last year has come back on the market. It's enough incentive that I'm trying to see if we can do this. As my Mom was known for saying, "Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it!" Cross your fingers!

Exciting times, to be honest. :D

Dave

Exciting news, this could be good timing to make that happen. Hoping the best!!

New primary or secondary home? Either way, good luck.

Congratulations! Funny you mentioned this -- just last night my wife and I were talking about getting serious about looking for a second home in Naples, FL. We have been looking around a bit the last couple of years, but we thought it was a little too soon, as we would be using this mostly after we both retire, and we are still a minimum of 5 years away from that. But if real estate takes a dip with the recession we are dropping into, we think it will be a good time to pick up something. We'll see how this all turns out.

Thanks! New primary. We'll sell here and move there. I'm ready for some desert heat. :)

Near Las Vegas.

Hope your bid goes through.

My wife has family out in Henderson that we visit on trips to Sedona. When they moved there it was way out in the desert, now its solid development all the way in to Vegas. We were there in December and the growth is moving out I-11 to Boulder City.

Thanks! It's definitely growing. When I was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas in 1974, it was still a very sleepy little town. The Strip ended about where the MGM Grand sits now. :)

Nice Dave.

Maybe wait a bit? I see the real estate prices dropping in Vegas. It’s a real economic mess there. You could always low ball it.

Heat? In the summer, your going to get heat like you have never seen. I have fried eggs on a sidewalk in Vegas in July and have melted the soles in my shoes as well. Wooo weeee.

Cooked all my meals and found out I am a good cook.

I call my mother multiple times a day.

I dyed my own hair.

I started a vegetable garden.

I have taken Yoga classes and like it. I thought I hated Yoga before.
I wonder how many people will end having another child after they thought they were done?

Cooked so much in the past two months that there’s few restaurants I now feel aren’t inferior to my home cooking.

Have had consistent time with DH, DD and grandson. We’ve managed to settle into a routine that includes being active, getting outside and eating dinner together. If we weren’t SIP we’d be busy going places and DD would be working.

Oh, how exciting! Good luck. I don't know exactly where you live in Washington state but I guessed Everett. Having a husband from Seattle/Bellevue, I know your winters and your weather. Hope it goes through. I know it would be easier to drive to your brother in the SF Bay Area if it is in the Reno or Lake Tahoe/Carson City area.

Thanks! I'm north of Everett, even, where the weather is even worse. LOL! :)

I never would have known I could sell stuff "contactlessly" on FB Marketplace and Nextdoor. Made $73 this month by putting stuff out in a bin next to my garage and having the buyers put money in my mailbox. Of course that cuts JB Orange Cat out of the loop and he does so enjoy meeting people coming to buy stuff. The colored glass that I had in my deep windows is the only thing I've sold so far that I'll miss. But we won't have a spot like that in the old folks home, so it had to be done.

Update: We decided not to try and buy the Nevada house. For as much as I really wanted that particular home, the timing is just not right. After crunching all the numbers, and even though the Seller in Nevada was willing to accept a deal contingent on us selling our home here, there are just too many details that are unknown or that are up in the air right now. So we've decided to continue with our existing plan, which is to get our current home ready to sell, then put it up for sale (probably in a year.) Once it has sold and closed escrow, we'll go to Nevada and buy what we find then, with a much stronger financial position on the deal. There is no shortage of nice homes for sale there, and we've discussed the option of having a home built that is exactly what we want.

On the other hand, if the economy goes in the tank, we may opt to just stay here in Washington for now, and travel more. You remember travel, don't you? We all used to do that - some of us even did it a lot. We'd like to try doing that again. :)

I think it is a very smart move. I doubt home prices will be going up in the next couple of years. Increasingly I am seeing "Back on the market" on homes that were in pending sale. We love our home but we are also saying in the unlikely event we find something that we love more for a steal, we may consider swapping homes.
