What Happens If One Doesn’t Pay Enrolled Week Annual Dues

I have one enrolled week (2012) and never exchanged for points. In fact I think I rented this unit every year since to help fund non timeshare travels. I enrolled it doubtful that points fit my travel style but thinking it might when I retire. The cost of annual dues gave me flexibility to understand and experiment. It didn’t take long to understand points and once I did, there was no reason to experiment. This being said, i continued to pay the dues thinking one more year. I have 2 weeks that can't be enrolled so I have a second II account.

Did anyone stop paying the dues for their enrolled week and what happened?
I enjoy my job, but if I lost it tomorrow for any reason, I would likely just retire. In this case, I would likely enroll it again. Has anyone enrolled their week recently or know what the current deal is to enroll a legacy week?

Thanks

I would keep it enrolled if it was mine.

I think they allow you to enroll it one time for free or for a low fee. If unrolled, it is expensive AFAIK to re-enroll.

I would not stop paying the fee but rather call owner care and ask this question. I think you can request the week to get out of the points system.

According to the terms in the governing docs, if Club Dues aren't paid then enrollment ceases as of the year following, and re-enrollment will be subject to the enrollment eligibility terms and fees applicable at the time of re-enrollment.

I don't remember seeing a TUG post about the practical application.

With you annual Club Dues invoice email, it makes it very clear

If the term of your enrollment in the Marriott Vacation Club Destinations® Exchange Program expires on December 31, 2019, then to avoid automatic renewal for 2020 you may either: (i) withhold payment of the Club Dues invoice for 2020, or (ii) send written notice to Marriott Vacation Club, Attention: Enrollments, 310 Bearcat Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84115 prior to January 1, 2020. Enrolled Owners who elect not to renew will lose the ability to exchange their week(s) for Vacation Club Points. Subsequent re-enrollment will require payment of the then current enrollment fee.

I felt the same way at first but then realized one of the values from the program is the no fees related to date changes and LOs which is proving valuable to me.

I called Customer Service and got a call back in a reasonable amount of time. Going into the call, it made no sense to pay 2020 dues since the unit is already rented for 2020, I have a second II account with other Marriott weeks so there is no additional II membership fees to move it over. We discussed the current cost of 595 for re-enrolling. He agreed that it made no sense to pay the dues and offered to switch me over to a supervisor to un-enroll the week. The fact that he agreed with me set off all sorts of warning alarms in my head. I am going to pay it (not because of his agreement). While I am positive points currently does not fit my travel style, I do think renting points when my wife retires can be an option when we can travel off or shoulder season. My wife is going to retire at the end of this school year for the third consecutive year. Follow through or not, I paid it for so long, what is another year.

This is the same thought process I went through. I enrolled because of a encore deal but initially didn't think I would benefit at all so felt like I was throwing away $200+ dollars but then needed to split some units and change some dates and did so at no cost and started to realize the value. Also it leaves open the option to rent points so it's not just about turning in your weeks into points.
