I know that the rules changed regarding meat but I'm not sure if a Costco rotisserie chicken is legal. Usually we don't take food to Canada or back to the USA with the exception of salmon we catch.

We cross (in the Niagara ON area) with fully cooked chicken (& eggs) in both directions all the time with no problems (as recently as June). It has to appear fully cooked, which a rotisserie chicken does. In June the US border agent even 'felt' my hardboiled eggs, which were peeled, through the bag to ensure they weren't raw.

Also, any fruit or vegetable that can be grown in the country you are entering can not be taken across the border in its fresh/raw state (cooked and sometimes frozen raw is ok). So oranges can be taken into Canada because they don't grow here, but apples and potatoes do, so they are usually forbidden. That being said, I have crossed into the US a few times with fresh raw, peeled, cored apples in a bag for snacks on our drive to Florida. Since I always list every food item I am bringing, the agents have said numerous times "no peel, no seeds, no problem"

Best to check the official border website of the country you are entering for latest regulations because they can literally change overnight.

We went though the Eastport Kingsgate crossing last week and going into Canada or back to the USA , they never asked about any food we had. They asked about liquor, cigarettes and firearms only.
