What exchange power can I expect? [Hilton Head Island at the Sea Crest]

Hi! Newbie here. I'm so glad I've found this site and have already learned so much about timeshares. So now I feel I finally know enough to ask a specific question for my situation :)

My grandparents own multiple timeshares and have offered one to my husband and me. It's a 1 BR, fixed week (#42) deeded unit in Hilton Head Island at the Sea Crest Surf & Racquet Club which is affiliated with RCI. Maintenance fee is about $630 yr. As a family, we took many vacations here growing up and loved them, but currently my husband and I are spending most of our vacation time exploring variety of destinations domestically and internationally. So the root of my question is what is the exchange power we'd expect with RCI? It seems we'd be trading with our week versus through their points system. On our own, we've enjoyed splurge traveling to more premier destinations at 4-5 star properties. Once children enter the mix we expect to take more modest vacations, but for those years in between I'm trying to figure out if we'd be satisfied with the kinds of exchanges we could expect with this timeshare. RCI website won't tell you much if you aren't already a member. Any advice is welcome!!

I don't have access to RCI Points -- but if the week were to trade through RCI Weeks, it would receive 18 Trade Power Units (TPU) from a max of 60TPU. So, fairly weak trade value for the annual costs.

Week 42 (mid-October) is really off season - a mid-summer week would have much higher trading power.

Personally, I would not accept this week - it has negative value. To be quite honest with you, if you ever decided to sell it, you'd have a hard time even giving it away.

Thanks for quick reply! The more research I do, the more I realize this may not be worth it to us. $630 does seem like a lot given its trading power.

RCI Deposit Calculator reports a 1bedroom Week 42 at Sea Crest (RCI number 0578) gets a TPU value of 18.

If it were me, I'd pass on it. You can do better.
