I'm a little confused about what the float means. If something is advertised as a 1-52 on eBay is that the broadest(or the most desirable) you can get?

Every resort has different seasons.

In this case, 1-52 is the broadest season, but it isn't the highest season.

Platinum - 1-21 & 50-51
Gold Plus - 1-52
Gold - 22-27 36-49
Silver - 28-35

In addition true Plat weeks must be in this range of unit numbers-

1064, 1072, 1081-1100, 2064, 2072, 2081- 2100, 3064-3072, and 3081-3100

We don't generally recommend SDO Plat weeks for traders, because they are a lot more expensive to buy than a 1-52 floating week. The Plat weeks are sought after by people for requalifying and that drives up the price.

You can see all the seasons at all the resorts here -

I saw this one too: 320775798692 The descriptions look a lot alike and the sale ends at the time. Two people can't be trying to sell the same thing, can they? If so, one of the bidders is going to be, um, disappointed?

Also, if something on says "week 32 floating week 1-52" What does that mean? Does that mean you have to use it in August?

All timeshares have a week specified on the deed for recording purposes. On this deed, the week is 32, but you may reserve weeks 1-52.

No - no priority. SDO isn't difficult to reserve anyway.

Ebay sellers tend to copy and paste ebay Ads, so that's not unusual.

An eBay purchase can be done entirely through email, phone, fax and mail, correct? You wouldn't have to get on a plane and go to AZ if you bought AZ property, HI if you bought HI property etc, etc. When we sat through the presentation the sales person said if you buy Hawaii the paper work needs to be done in person in Hawaii.

That's a big fat FIB - they just don't want you to go home and think about it! :D

Q: How do you know when a timeshare salesperson is lying?

A: There lips are moving.

"When we sat through the presentation the sales person said if you buy Hawaii the paper work needs to be done in person in Hawaii."

You were asking about an eBay transaction. But, you were also commenting about a Starwood presentation. Did the sales person offer to fly you to Hawaii to close the Starwood transaction "in person?"

If you buy a timeshare in Hawaii, the eBay transaction has to be closed by a closing company licensed by Hawaii to close transactions in Hawaii.

No purchaser goes to the local recorder's office to file a deed for any timeshare. A professional closing company (hopefully licensed and bonded, but usually chosen by the seller) handles closings for eBay purchases. Starwood (or Marriott, or Disney or Hyatt) has an entire department which handles closings for developer purchases. ... eom

You do not have to use a closing company in Hawaii.

If there is money involved, by law, you have to use an escrow company in Hawaii.

The OP already stated that they attended a sales presentation at WPORV...

True. Sorry for the use of the wrong term (closing v. escrow). But to set up a closing escrow for a Hawaii timeshare, the person holding the money has to be licensed and bonded in Hawaii. I have never heard of an eBay closing that did not also involve the use of an escrow. It's just too dangerous to close without an escrow and instructions, IMO. So, for Hawaii, someone licensed and bonded in Hawaii must be involved

From Close My Timeshare:

"In the state of Hawaii, we use an attorney on the main island to prepare your legally correct deed. Additionally, your closing funds must be held by a Hawaii Licensed Escrow Company. Closemytimeshare.com has established an escrow relationship with Hawaii Resort Escrow, a fully licensed and trusted escrow company based in Honolulu."

The only thing we've ever run in to with off-site purchases was notarization requirements for some properties (WKORVN and WDW in our cases), which required you to be on US soil (or in a consulate?) when the signatures were made and stamped. They even had ink colour requirements.

Our other off-site purchases (SVR) were done completely electronically, or via courier/etc (WLR).
