Hello all,

We have a group heading to Grand Palladium White Sand Resort in Riveria Maya in February. This is our first trip to this area and would like suggestions on things not to miss....

We definately want to see the Ruins and possible zip-lining or 4-wheeling... Looking for suggestions on tours or other options...

Thanking you in advance for any information you have to share.

We did Edventure Tours - the whole day thing - and we loved it.
Go shopping and dining in Playa del Carmen.

Pretty broad request, but I'll throw out a few:
Snorkeling in Puerto Morelos or one of the nature parks
Day trip to Tulum for beach, ruins, and bar-hopping
Day trip to Cozumel via ferry. Rent jeeps and tour the island, or swim with the dolphins.
Fishing charter out of Akumal
Dining on the beach in Playa del Carmen
Dining and shopping on Quinta Avenida in Playa
Doing nothing, in a pool, with a beverage in hand from the pool bar.

Mexican folk art

If you like Mexican folk art, there is an AWESOME private collection you can tour in Vallolidid. Here is a link. http://www.casadelosvenados.com/

You can easily combine this with Chichen Itza on a private tour. We used Cancun with Me. Our guide was Andy (female), she was great, spoke perfect English. We did a very long day tour and covered Chichen Itza, Casa de Los Venados, lunch at Taberna del Los Frailes (excellent, memorable meal), Ek Balam, and a cenote who's name escapes me, something in the name to do with "pig.". We liked Ek Balam best. Blew our minds that some of the original white stucco still is in place there.

Tulum was very worthwhile, So was cave snorkeling in Cenote dos Ojas.

Must Do?

Not sure that it's a must do, but every time we go to Playa del Carmen (or to Cancun, for that matter), we make it a point to go to Xel-Ha for a day. I'm also partial to snorkeling visits to Yal-Ku in Akumal.

For the adventurous: Aktun Chen, a dry cave for exploring, and Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve (the latter available via tours from Ana y Jose; numbers of tourists admitted is strictly controlled, so best to reserve tours in advance.)

Xcaret, Xplor, and xel ha are three must see experiences. Go on line and see what they are. Xplor is an extreme adventure park. My husband and I are 62 and 61, respectively we just did it last month. It was fantastic. The day includes zip lining, atv driving through the jungle, rowing and swimming in cenotes.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Now to narrow it down to a couple since we will be just staying on the resort most of the time.

Happy New Year Tug Family
