I have a three bedroom booked at Ocean Pointe for July 2-9. I'm looking to trade for Maui Ocean Club two bedroom (prefer either of the newer towers) any week from Jan 1 to Aug 13, 2016. How likely do you think this trade is to match something, and do you think I could still get it if I locked-off and just used the two bedroom Ocean Pointe for this week?

With that much flexibility in dates you should be able to get it with the 3BR. The 2BR might work, but much less likely. The problem is that the availability of 2BR units in the Maui new towers is not that large because most owners who trade lock off and trade one or both halves separately. We own there and have never traded our unit as a 2BR. We occasionally trade the studio, sometimes use DC points, and often stay in our MOC unit. I don't think we are unusual in doing this. If you want to be pretty sure of getting your trade, deposit the whole 3BR.

We own a 3 bedroom platinum in Aruba and when I want a certtain hard trade - it can come in handy to get what I want. II seems to work extra hard in trying to find a match we would take. It's best if you can do a Request First, if possible. I know you can do RF up to your checkin date but I believe you can request trade "after" that date too if it's Marriott to Marriott. Not sure if that has changed. Good luck with your trade!
Yes, Marriott Special Request First allow you to trade for dates beyond the check in date.

I agree with this and it is the problem.
If your trades comes through, I think it will be 60 days before check-in because someone had to cancel and deposited the intact unit to maximize trade power. If you are good with that, you may get it.
I think you should look for a rental and try to get the best price possible. B

Using my Surfwatch July 4th week I had a request first match into a 2 bdrm at MOC checking in on June 26, 2016. The match came right at the 12 month mark but is in the older section. I expect a match into one of the two newer buildings would have been much more difficult.
