I hadn't seen any mention here that Starwood was accepting reservations yet at the new Cancun property, but today's email newsletter has this quote:

DID YOU KNOW?
The Network Float Period for reservations with StarOptions at The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas in Kaua'i, Hawai'i, and The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort in Cancún, Mexico, is now open to Starwood Vacation Network members. Plan your summer 2008 getaway now by calling Owner Services.

I was hoping for a late-2008 reservation there, but with all the recent weather and earlier news about construction issues around the on-site historical areas, I wasn't sure if it would open on time. I guess my fears were unfounded! :)

Does anyone know the official opening date for Lagunamar?

I made my reservation for middle June 2008. I also spoke directly with the Starwood about a week ago and everything is on track for Lagunamar (ahead for Princeville). In fact, they have even started on the second tower at Lagunamar; see updated photos just posted today on MyStarCentral. Things can always change but I think that you would be very safe to get in toward the end of summer next year.

Thanks for the info, and thanks for the tip on the new photos.

Interesting that the photo captions state the resort is opening in June 2008 (which agrees with what I'd heard before), but the newsletter states that the network float period is open now. According to my calendar, 8 months before June 1, 2008 would be October 1, 2008, so they're a little ahead of themselves.

Either way, I was aiming for October 2008, so there's plenty of buffer between the opening and my (hopeful) reservation ... and plenty of time before I can even attempt to make my reservation.
