I'm looking at buying a small Aventuras points package resale. I believe I understand the limitations of Aventuras resale based on TUG research:
  • can only reserve at 2 resorts: Cabo & Lagunamar
  • most of the Aventuras trust is made of up Cabo; it seems that the Lagunamar inventory is mostly studios
  • can't borrow or bank the points
  • the points can be traded in Interval, but it must be from a separate personal account
How much is the trade fee is in Interval (I haven't made an Interval trade in years)? Is there any kind of discount for trading Vistana to Vistana or Vistana to Marriott?

Thanks!

  • You can reserve at Lagunamar, Cabo and Westin Cancun
  • I beleive that is the case.
  • You can't bank or borrow HomeOptions.
  • Correct, you won't get a free II account and your HomeOptions won't be added to free a VSN corp II account.
  • Exchange fees Vistana to Vistana or Vistana to Marriott currently have a $65 discount off the full exchange fee of $229.

It seems unclear on whether Westin Cancun is in or not. Possibly, it is for just the time being. That's not a critical issue for me.

I own Aventuras and can book at Westin Cancun. There is no inventory from Westin Cancun in the trust, though, based on the disclosure guides. There also doesn't appear to have ever been any inventory there sold elsewhere.

From what I understand, the Westin Cancún is NOT in Aventuras and more or less currently stands alone, like Harborside Bahamas but can be booked 12 months out by Aventuras owners and reserved at 8 months with Staroptions. You can’t directly own it either. It’s not yet clear what Vistana is going to do with that inventory in the long run, whether it will be added to the Aventuras trust or not. It was supposed to be converted to 100% timeshare but that conversion stopped with no current plans for completion, so it’s technically 2 properties - timeshare side and hotel side. It may end up with the same fate as the Westin Puerto Vallarta - sold off. It’s disappointing that MVC isn’t looking to expand that trust. We own some of it and have had pretty good success getting good reservations over Thanksgiving and Christmas.
