How long a drive is it to the Coast from the Welk Resorts in Escondido? Things like San Diego, La Jolla, Carlsbad, etc. What are the roads like? Good highways, high levels of traffic? (My wife is scared to death on the major highways in CA that run North-South.)

Thanks,

BigTom

For maps, directions, distance and time, go to www.mapquest.com and scroll down to the section for directions between 2 points. Put in the address for Welk for your starting point and just the city and state for your ending point(s.) You should expect major highways and a lot of traffic most places in SCA.

San Diego

It takes aprox. 45 minutes to San Diego going on 15 to 8. Easy drive except of course it is the busiest time. We don't find that area to be like LA.

The resort is wonderful..........but is close to nothing. You will have to drive everywhere.

It takes less than 1/2 hour to get to the beach (Carlsbad & Oceanside.) (If you take Gopher Canyon Rd. through Vista, you can avoid the Southbound 15 fwy.)

BigTom: Unfortunately most of the East Coast has moved to Carlsbad I think :) Best times without much traffic here (I live in Carlsbad) is between 10-2pm.

From Welk to Petco Park is 38 miles. Petco Park is downtown San Diego. That drive takes under 35 minutes, except with traffic.

Escondido is 30 minutes from door to sand in Oceanside or Carlsbad.

Since May there has been very little traffic on the South bound 15. It used to be a bottel neck from 6a-9:30. Now it only gets bogged down fron 7-8. Even them that drive to downtown will be 45-60 minutes. Not bad considering I'm talking about rush hour.
Two things happened on I-15. 1. Gas prices forced alot of people to carpool or telecommute. 2. more lanes have finally opened.
