Our 25th wedding anniversary is in January and I would like to surprise my wife with a trip to Hawaii. We went on our honeymoon and haven't been there since.

I would like to stay in an Oceanfront unit (bungalow, cottage, house, etc) although a nice large hotel room would suffice. Would like to visit Mauai and the big island. Anybody have any recommendations for 1st class accommodations right smack on the ocean.

Thanks

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. First class everything. 2 outstanding beaches right there at or near the resort. :)

I would recommend either the Marriott or Hyatt right on Kaanapali Beach Maui.

Also check with Mauna Lani on the big island, they usually have a package deal
for anniversaries, etc... They gave us a 50th anniversary package when we took
our parents a few years ago even though their anniversary had passed several
months earlier. Haven't been back since they did a minor renovation so I can't
say what it's like right now but we always liked the place and really enjoyed the
fact that it never seemed crowded there.

Check out www.vrbo.com These are generally privately owned houses/apartments/condos. We have gotten some great lodgings, but January in Maui is about as high demand time/place as there is, and it's getting late to pick up anything but a cancellation.

CONGRATULATIONS: 25 YEARS SHOWS A LOT OF LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. During our ceremony years ago the Preacher reminded us that anniversaries were far more important than Weddings.:cheer:

It isn't Maui but we think Kauai is the most romantic.

If it were me I'd seriously consider the Waimea Plantation Cottages on Kauai. 877-997-6667. Wi-Fi in lobby, health spa, room safe, coin op laundry, maid service every third day. They were plantation workers homes with old style floors and furniture and have been refurnished with modern amenities. Peace and Privacy are yours and how about the hammocks for two to watch the sunset over Ni'ihau together, toasting each other with a glass of wine, and snuggling together to enjoy the ocean breeze, sound of the palm leaves rustling, and surf sounds.

Lots of Ohana and aloha..

Next step: 50 years (but don't wait that long to get back to paradise)

I'd suggest getting the latest edition of THE ULTIMATE KAUAI GUIDEBOOK KAUAI REVEALED BY ANDREW DOUGHTY WIZARD PUBS. isbn 978-0-9814610-1-451695

Of course, check out TUG reviews.

Congratulations! I recommend the Four Seasons Resort, Hualalai, and the Four Seasons Resort, Maui at Wailea.

I would also suggest the Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island.

How about adding a vow renewal to the celebration? It doesn't have to be fancy. My husband and I do this every 5 years and after reaching 25 years we've now done it the past two years on the beach at Grande Ocean the morning we leave, after we check out and can breath. Our wedding was in May but we don't care if it's November. Just the two of us, saying thanks and what we promise each other for the future. It's quite simple, very lovely and touching. Commitment is a lost part of too many marriages and families these days and we value that we are committed to each other and our family so this small private action is affirmation of that commitment.

P.S. You get kudos for thinking of this for you and your wife!! Well done!

Reaffirming Wedding Vows

We reaffirmed our wedding vows 6 years ago at Wai'oli Hui'ia church in Hanalei after the church service.

It really was more meaningful to us than the actual wedding ceremony years ago and two two of our good Hawaiian friends stayed afterwards and sang the Hawaiian Wedding Song more beautifully than we have ever heard it.

The reason it was so meaningful was my wife's stroke on 7/9/99 when a nurse told me it was so severe I should prepare to become a widower. She was in the Hospital 76 days!!

Obviously, the Great physician heard my prayers and those of many others and with help from many fine Drs, nurses, and therapists, and her strong Irish red-headed will, she has recovered and off we go to Kauai on Dec 9th.
