My method: Put it in the dishwasher. If it doesn't come out looking new...
You can cover it with aluminum foil or parchment paper (depending).

I still find the best way to cleaned baked on grease from my pans, and the grates from the burners on my gas stove, is to put them into a large trash bag and pour a few cups of household ammonia into the bag. I seal the bag up tight and shake (holding the pans/ grates thru the bag) to distribute the ammonia. I leave it overnight and then in the morning (wearing eye protection & an N95 mask) I open the bag and rinse all the accumulated grime off. Works like a charm every time and no scrubbing, just a little stinky!
