Hi there!
As I said I just got back 2 days ago.
At the Frenchmans Cove there were water trucks hauling in water from 8am and as late as 9pm all day long. Poor people in the building on the end having to listen to the trucks and water being pumped all day. It was bad enough in the Van jost building. One day our building had no water but they said it was due to a pipe burst. I was surprised they were not even asking people to ration water as if I'd known sooner I would have used a lot less. But, as my husband says, at least they're dealing with the problem.
Aparently, down town is having problems and the cruise ships are advising pasengers to stay out of down town and head for a beach or excursions. We ate at Hook Line and Sinker and there was no problem with water.
We were also concerned about eating at Banana Tree and there was no problem. We were going to eat at Tavern on the Waterfront but he was interviewed in the paper saying how bad the problem is at his restaurant. Talk about driving even more people away! He said he has to arrive at 6:30 am when the water is turned on to start stockpilling it. Most businesses will not let anyone but customers use the bathrooms.
People who live in the hills had their water turned on for a short time period each day but by the time it got up the hill their time was almost over and they said the water was brown. If you had a sistern, no trucks would come and give you water.
I can't see this going on for too much longer as the tourists are all they have.
When are you going?
the day we left the paper said they were now able to pump more water but locals said they have said that many times and nothing happened.
Just want to say shame on them for not getting the problem fixed. The desalination plant went down Nov. 15. What is St. Thomas, a third world country? That seems like a lot of time to fix something, get parts, etc...just sayin.

Our resort has it's own water supply (and generator). I'm surprised the Mariott doesn't also especially since they just spent 47 million on refurbishing. Utilities leave much to be desired in STT that's why most homes have their own water supply and generator.

I believe Marriott Frenchman's REEF and MORNINGSTAR do have their own desalinations; however, it apparently doesn't apply to the COVE which is technically separate companies.

This is a worry to Owners:

What special assessment might there be for all the water pumping and trucks? Especially for those Owners who weren't there when it was happening.

What if the COVE Board decides to 'RENT' desalination from the adjacent REEF - what kind of sweetheart deal might us Owners be subjected to paying. Just saying. It's possible.

The fact that there is a regular Marriott next to the timeshare COVE has always troubled me. There are too many opportunities to comingle facility costs.
