Washington, DC and Williamburg Vacation

We are hoping to take our kids to DC for a week and then Williamsburg for another week. We can trade through RCI or Interval. What resorts do people recommend for each city. We would like to be close to the "big attractions." We are hoping to go in July 2016 so I am going to be starting searches for the best resorts now so hopefully something will come through. We were thinking Marriot Mayflower or Wyndham Vacation Resorts - Old Town Alexandria for our week in DC?? Then either Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony? I am not sure if we will be able to trade into these but want to know what people think are the best resorts in those two areas? Should we also try for a week in Virginia Beach?? If so what do you recommend?

Old Towne might be very hard, close to impossible for the July 4th holiday.

Williamsburg will be hard .. but you will have to keep you best RCI Trader for DC (the 2 Wyndhams are it).

Governor Green is in II...the other Wyndhams are in RCI.

Neither of the 2 DC timeshares will come up through RCI even with an OGS during the summer. You can rent from an owner or make do with a hotel. There are a lot of hotels with easy access to the metro. The Mayflower just was added late August of this year. I doubt their will be summer availability through II and the rooms that have been deposited are not much more than hotel rooms. I also think Virginia Beach would be very difficult through II. If you want Virginia Beach and can fit into a 1 br then look at what RCI has now and/or put in a request.

Williamsburg shouldn't be difficult as long as you are willing to commit within the next month or two. Manor Club and Wyndham Governors Green would be my recommendation for II and Governers Green or Kingsgate would be my first choices through RCI. If you can't get those than there are still other great Williamsburg resorts.

I agree with the advice you've gotten about DC.

For Williamsburg, you have lots of good choices. We own at King's Creek and I think it's really nice for a family. We've stayed at Powhatan and I really like it there, although the units are pretty up-and-down. But I like the grounds and the pool setup, and they have nice activities. We've also stayed at Kingsgate, that was pretty nice, and Bluegreen's Patrick Henry, which has a fabulous location but the rooms are smallish.

the marriott in Wllmbg is very nice. that is my #1 choice, #2 Greensprings (RCI), tied #2 or #3 Governors Green. We have stayed at all of those.
DC is a very tough trade. I would definitely have a hotel back up near/on the metro (subway) line or in DC.

I agree DC for the summer months is a very tough trade. For Williamsburg, here are my recommendations Marriott Manor Club, Wynham Governor Green, Kingsgate, Holiday Inn Vacation Resort, Greensprings Vacation Resort and King Creek 3 bedroom unit.

Please take a look at Massanutten resort as a place to stay to visit DC. It could be a day trip to the nation capital and a great resort for the adults and the kids to also enjoy.
