Want some input on latest trend at MVC and trust points !

Agreed……

The salesman tried to make it sound as if it was a badge of honor to own a large number of points and I just was obtuse by not understanding the ‘Marriott Owners Way’.

^ Based on my presentation last week there are a large number of Marriott Owners who really know how to leverage their points and have portfolios of 10K points or more. They understand how beneficial owning tons of points are and love being able to utilize their points to go on great vacations by using points for everything.

Mathematically wise, the guy made zero sense and I am among the people here who value actual deeded weeks ownership over points.
Only a sales guy would come up with this, but I suspect he doesn't own many points and thinks leveraging is getting a bargain OceanWatch Ocean Front unit in early January. Or, perhaps he likes Palm Desert in August and sits there thinking he's in a sauna because he has a spray bottle and the natural heat. Yes, there are bargains as well as stupid people.

It was a long 4th of July weekend so I might still have brain fog but it is unclear to me what challenge you are trying to fix to want to change from from your current portfolio. You purchased 13500 points at a good price with a MF of about 11,000. You have an ocean front platinum week that gets 5000 points at a MF at about 44 cents a point giving you a combined total MF of about 72 cents a point. This is 10% less than just just owning points right now.

If you need additional points, you can rent 2027 points at .75 cents a point. You can rent from zero to 20,000 points. There is absolutely no shortage of people to rent points from.

The only challenge I see is a salesman painting a picture and trying to convince you it is a Van Gogh. You have a lot of art appraisers in this group telling you it’s not. (Sorry for the anolgy. Reading inside Job by D Silva.)

This is what I don't understand. Why buy more points and pay higher maintenance fees than you can buy them from others?

A thought, what if the market for points was freed up so points were bought and sold in a free market? How low would they drop? Would MVC be the likely loser with the exclusion of the ROFR advantage?

The points would be worthless. Why would anyone buy them?

We've been members at Aruba Surf since 2004 and are at Executive Level. Seems like every "enhancement" pushes us further and further down the list of "benefits." I feel like Rodney Dangerfield. The lack of respect gets more and more obvious. Can't see any reason to stay in the system after 2028. Time to go.

And that isn't even counting the additional $20,000 to get the same thing with higher MF. It is so ludicrous we shouldn't even be discussing it.
if we only talked about great deals at timeshare sales presentations, TUG would be a blank webpage=D

1) I own an ocean front platinum week at ocean watch. I pay approx $2000 in annual maintenance fees. 2) their offer was I “buy” 5000 trust points at 20k . They showed some math where based on current rate for those trust points it’s $x and then they are giving me 100% credit for the week purchase price I paid and it’s still an additional $20k.
Maintainance on 5000 points at 82 cents , is close to $4k which is double my current maixtenance… so we didn’t sell the week to Marriott .
1. That's called "Marriott Math"! Stay away!
2. You have a great deed at Oceanwatch NEVER give it up!!!!
