I have no idea what this means and/or how to do it. Anyway you can explain the process?

Does Hilton have a handbook with all their timeshare terminology ?
Open season and walking a reservation are just two examples.

Open season is an HGVC term, but walking and shuffling are NOT. They are terms that those who know how to use the system use.

@pedro47 Here are a couple of terms used often here:

Walking a reservation - This is way if booking a difficult reservation where you book a 3 day stay right at the 9 month window. You move and extend the reservation each day until you get the desired stay.

Shuffling points - This is a method where you “exchange” later points for an earlier years. You shorten your stay by 2 days. The system will remove the latest points (those that will expire the last). Then you extend your stay back to the original length and earlier points will be used. You should only do this 2 days at a time as there is a 3 day minimum stay.

Open season - This is a program that HGVC used that allows cash bookings at the 30 day or closer date. These are units that aren’t booked with points that HGVC wants to get booked.

The Hilton Reference Guide does not have a glossary or list of user-jargon.
"Open Season" is a standard HGVC term commonly known as "last call."
IMHO, new users should be required to pass a test on HGVC nomenclature.

Here's my version of "walking a reservation:"
Let's say you want to book a stay the moment your booking window opens.
That's typically 276 days away. But there's 3N minimum stay....
So, really you can't book until 279 days away, and that's just for 3N.

Even if you want to stay longer, you still make that first booking for 3N.
Why? Becuz each night at 12AM ET, you can add one more night at the end.

But here's the fun part...
You don't have to wait for the first 3N you want to open up on day #279.
If you find earlier availability you can start earlier, much earlier even.
Each night at 12AM ET, you add one at the end and deduct one at the front.

I have been trying to book a few days in Maui using this system but there never seems to be three nights together, only two.
And what happens if at midnight, you don't see the consecutive night open up? what do you do?
What happens if you fall asleep earlier than midnight one night and the next night there is a gap in your reservation?
Ugh... this is very hard

Maui only has a few units available right now, as soon as they finish more buildings it should get easier.

It's midnight EST, so a little easier for us west coasters, we only have to stay up to 9pm

This is unfair.
IMHO, booking should start at 9:30am ET, like the stock market.

For hard to get rooms or locations it is the only way. I set an alarm for the days that I have to walk, if setting an alarm I have lot the next day because I was 1 min too late.

I've had it where somebody beat me to it and got in front of me so I just started picking up the day he was dropping off. Some people start walking weeks ahead of their intended dates.

I am trying to book an additional room for my adult kids at the Maui Bay Villas.
Is is possible to "walk" a reservation in Open season? I have no more points left. In other words, if I am able to grab the first two nights, can I then add another night as it opens up at midnight? and keep going till I have a week?

in that case walking isn't advantageous, just reserve the next night whenever it becomes available, right?

If it becomes available. You could end up with two isolated non-refundable nights.

You only walk units that have availability and you pick them up as the 9 month window moves. If you lose an availability, you are more than likely will ahead of the no cancel window. Actually, being elite premier makes it much easier since there aren't any booking fees.

Understood. But in Post #16, @optimist was asking about trying to "walk" an Open Season cash reservation
