Hi! I’m a new Abound user and have tried to get on a waitlist for the Ritz and the Timber Lodge in Tahoe. As recently as yesterday when I requested, I got the response that the waitlist system was broken and they couldn’t use it.

Is this normal? Is it broken more times than not? Is there a secret to getting them to help me?

Thanks in advance

It seems to go in and out and I've also see it reported that there is some form of limit on the size of the wait-list and then they stop adding more requests to it, which is plausible. Whether this is resort specific or across all resorts I don't know. It may be easier for advisors to say its broken than try to explain that there is a limit and then get questions from people about that.
I used it successfully in August and it worked then.
Either way, try again another time and you might have better luck.

About 1-1.5 years ago the waitlist was a mess and the agents didn’t really know what was going on- some said only supervisors could place them, others said “the back office” only (I eventually got one placed this way after waiting a few weeks for the process to complete).

I was able to place waitlist last month no problem.
My advice would be to call again and speak to another agent and ask questions to clarify.

I know that some resorts don't accept waitlists (e.g. Sheraton and Westin) and it could be that the Ritz-Carlton Club resorts don't either. I have a vague memory of being unable to put in a waitlist request for the Ritz Carlton Club resort in St Thomas...but I could be dreaming it.

On the contrary, there is a waitlist for Vistana properties (Westin and Sheraton) and it’s available to presidential and chairman's club members when exchanging within the Vistana network (VSN.j. It isn’t available to Marriott-only owners, who don’t have any ability to trade within VSN.

i think it’s the same on the Marriott side, the waitlist is only when exchanging within the Marriott network, and maybe only for weeks reservations? I don’t see anything about a waitlist for reservations made with Club Points. Am I wrong about that?

Just to follow up that I was able to finally place a waitlist request once, and it converted to a reservation shortly afterwards. So my lesson learned is just keep trying, which is a real inefficient waste of time for owners. :(
