Waiohai options for 2010

We have 2 weeks EOY at Waiohai and are due back there in 2010. We're from the UK and the current economic climate PLUS the very poor pound/dollar exchange rate (for us!) means that we might have to consider our options.

Converting to points, I believe, is a waste of an expensive purchase which leaves exchanging or renting. We're very used to exchanging our other resorts but have never considered renting.

I've seen in the past that rental rates for good resorts can be quite high but would that still be true in the current climate?

poor exchange??? isn't the trip going to be less expensive for you because the british pound is stronger than the USed Dollar ? this is one reason we bypassed our UK stayover later this year : (

The US dollar is currently the strongest it has been against the British pound in 7 years. It's a great time to visit London or other areas that use the pound for their currency.

I would say that rental rates are definitely down right now, but you still have a property that will easily rent for more than your MF's.

I would book two consecutive weeks and ask $5000 US to start. If someone offers you a bit less, take the money and run. Be ready to go again in 2012.

If you want to deposit with II make sure you book a week later in the year that will extend you 2 year use period as for out as possible. Maybe you can get four weeks in 2012.

I would think that booking consecutive weeks as suggested above over the summer would likely maximize your rental rates plus be a bit further out so that it extends your 2 year exchange period and give you some time before worrying about renting (with the hope that the economy might start to improve by next year, although it's anyone's guess right now).

winger - as LAX mom says, it's your turn to think of coming over here to take advantage of the dollar/pound benefit. February, last year, we were in the US and got about $2 to the pound but the current rate is about $1.34 :(

Thanks for tips on reserving and renting and if I could get anywhere near $5000 for the two weeks I'd bite their hands off!!
