:D We are going to Waiohai in 2009, staying in an island view unit. I'm wondering what building is best. I would like to look into the resort grounds and not a parking lot. Also any thoughts on floor? We own ocean view, so we typically ask for a hight floor. We did stay in a garden view unit once at MOC on the ground level and like it, because it was easy to walk out to the pool and cafe. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Bee

If you can snag it, Hale 1 and Hale 8 have some garden view units that are really close to the beach and you'll have a tiny slice of the ocean if you look for it. We are currently here in Hale 5 over looking the pond. It is nice. I was happy not to get anything overlooking the parking lot. I prefer 2nd or 3rd floor units. 2nd floor is nice because you can just walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator.

Most of the 1st floor units are walk outs.

Imagine a U-shaped complex with Bldgs 1 & 8 being nearest the ocean. Bldgs 4-5 are a bit farther away, but have great views of the lagoon.

If you simply ask for an INTERIOR facing unit you will love the view. The higher floors have better views of the mountains. The top floors do not have a cover over the balcony.

Are some of the best units in Hale 1 still being used as sales offices? If so, any word on when they will be available for use by owners? Marriott has been using those rooms for over 5 years now.

We were told there are only 1000 weeks left so, the sales office will be packing up soon to leave to go sell Kauai Lagoons. I don't know if I remember right but I thought the entire 1st floor was sales offices. Now, it looks like only one side is sales office. The other side is definitely being occupied by owners/exchangers, etc...

Is there still only one swan or are there more now? It's a lovely property and the beach is nice too. I would love to go back one day. :)

Where is the new resort going to be?

So funny you should ask about the Swan. My 10 year old said that it is probably lonely without a mate. But yes.. there is only one there.

The new resort will be on the cliff above the Kauai Beach Club in Lihue. They have a website just google Kauai Lagoons and you'll find it.

Yes... the beach is beautiful but the weather is strange this week. Very overcasted and cloudy..

We were at the Waiohai in June. The staff spoke about the renovation of two or three of the buildings which will be starting soon [the start of the refurbishment process which will go on in every building - freshening paint and other wall treatments and floor coverings, "soft" upgrades in the units), which will include the build out of the rooms that have been used as offices for the sales team, including the "sales center".

We also felt sorry for the one single swan and hoped that he would get company again. I only see two Marriott resorts in Kauai but not the one you mentioned with the word "lagoons". It must be a brand new one in the pipe. :) Am I right or are there two names for the same resort?

Stange weather in Kauai too! What a pity but I hope it will get better soon for you and your family the rest of the week. A week goes by too fast. We have high humidity here too at home that we aren't used to so the A/C feels good today.

Enjoy that lovely resort as we have fond memories of our week there.

PS. Ciscogizmo1, I found it but it isn't a Marriott timeshare resort ( Ritz-Carlton Club ) and not on the beach! ;)

Google Maps in Satellite view has a great shot of Waiohai.

I'm sorry to leave out the details on the new location. Yes... it is a ritz but also will have Grand Residences there too. Here's the link:

So, yes it will be a fractional timeshare.

Oh...the weather is 10 times better than home but unusual for us. They said that it has been very rainy this year in Kauai. Everything is very green including the dry areas.

Any room facing the interior will be a lovely, serene view.

As for the swan, they have introduced potential mates and it has never worked out, so the staff told me. The Waiohai swan wants to be the sole swan. Strange, huh?

Maybe the swan thinks the resident black-capped heron is her mate? Several older resort reviews mentioned "a big bird" in the lagoon and we saw it there in June. It flew in through the center of the resort every morning around 6:30 and back out again around 7 at night, but it never left the lagoon (that we saw) all day long.

They make a lovely couple, don't they?

We stayed in Hale 3 and it had no parking lot views, was conveniently located right by the parking lot, and had a walk out patio which we really enjoyed.

We also stayed in Hale 8 which had a great view of the side of the Marriott lawn and a slice of Ocean.

Stay away from Hale 4 as it has some parking lot views.

Just nicely ask for a garden view and you should be okay.

We enjoyed our Hale 2 view of the lagoon and waterfall. It was convenient to the Maketplace, BBQ grills, and a short walk to the pools/beach. There were no parking lot views in Hale 2. All the units faced the gardens.

As for the swan, the story we got was that Makana, Hawaiian for gift, came as a gift from the Marriott Kauai Beach Club in Lihue. It was not a social swan and didn't get along with the other birds there so they shipped it off to Waiohai so it could be alone. Sounds like they tried to bring some other swans in but it is still anti-social.

Thanks for the updates and I don't feel sorry for the swan anymore. :) Our cat (Taffy) was like that as he didn't like any other animals around so when the last one died, he was happy. Animals and even swans are like people with their own peculiar personalities.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I'm going to request Hale 3 or 4 with a nice interior garden view. Now all I have to do is wait until July 2009!
