voluntary resale - showing staroptions

Has anybody purchased at a Starwood voluntary resort and had mystarcentral show a staroptions balance? I called a rep asking about availability at the home resort and she was offering some stays with points so it seems like she was seeing points on her side as well. It would be nice if somehow this transferred with staroptions but I wouldn't want to make a SO reservation for 2013 and have it cancelled and not be able to get a good week reservation.

It is a common record keeping mistake that Starwood makes frequently - if you try to use the Staroptions, they will tell you that you don't have any.

Please note that StarPOINTS and StarOPTIONS are different - Starpoints are Starwood hotel points, and resales don't have those either.

Denise, thanks for the reply. I meant staroptions not starpoints. The points showing in the 2013 balance are for more than one week, so that would have been a nice surprise from the purchase.

If SVO thinks I'm in the starpotions program and the unit is at SDO would I be able to make a "normal" i.e, non-Staroptions 2013 reservation in my 1-52 week float period?

If I then tried to use the staroptions and received a confirmation would it be subsequently cancelled or are they unlikely to catch it once a confirmation is done?

Yes

I don't think it would ever go that far, I think when they tried to make the Resv., the computer system will catch the error.

On January 4, 2012, the OP posted:

"Was looking at picking up an SDO timeshare (2BR).

I understand there are Platinum weeks which are 1-17, 51-52, and full year floating weeks (1-52)."

http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161993

41 days seems to me a little quick for a purchase, closing, notification to Starwood Title and changes in the SDO (and SVO) resort records - much less to have a whole new mystarcentral account set up (and incorrectly).

I guess it could happen. But I think the OP is looking at the unaltered mystarcentral account of the previous owner.

Anyway, no agent at SVO can make Starpoints reservations if you call Starwood Owner Services. You call SPG directly, not SVO, to make a Starpoint reservation. ... eom

No more staroptions showing

Just logged in to MSC and there are no more StarOptions showing for 2013 so it looks like Starwood cleaned up their records.

Jarta is right that the timing was very compressed actually <21 days as the deed was recorded electronically and I called SW title to follow up and get the contract # which I used to set up the MSC account, and thus the balance was probably from the previous owner. Just seems like a record-keeping issue as they probably should zero out the SO balance at the same time they switch the owner info if it is a resale.

No worries, would have been a nice bonus but now I can just focus on getting the best use out of the SDO unit.
