Vistana - cancelled contract few years back and suddenly received call about the ownership and points

I'm just wondering if anyone had the same experience. We signed for timeshare ownership but cancelled it shortly thereafter and within the period as indicated in the contract. We received a cancellation confirmation from Vistana and any funds paid were returned. All this happened 4 years ago. And just a couple of days ago we received complimentary call from Maria Dylan regarding bonvoy ownership with Vistana about the points we have. Since the contract was cancelled, I would expect no points and no calls. The call came from 407-278-4300 and makes me bit worried. Though, we still have all the paperwork related to the cancellation of our contract.

Your name was on a list associated w/ Vistana and it was most likely just a canned sales call. I wouldn't give it a second thought. I often get calls regarding my "RCI points", and I have never owned RCI points. So it goes.

This also could be a case where some sale person downloaded customer contact information from Vistana and either is using it after they left the company or sold it to scammers.

Similar thing has happened with us several times. I figure it happens because the sales department keeps a database of their sales, which is not synced with ownership records. So I apparently lived on in the sales department database for some years afterward.

Did a google search of the phone number, it comes up as "vacation rentals" with two complaints about somebody trying to sell/rent timeshares. These scam companies scour public records for current/former timeshare owners and cold-call. Ignore it.

Aside from that it wouldn't be surprising if a Bonvoy account in your name is still open. Bonvoy is the customer rewards program affiliated with Marriott and Vistana - if you didn't already have an account at the time of the rescinded purchase, one would have been automatically opened. It's not something you buy into and it doesn't come with any obligation, and the account is yours forever if you ever want to use it. If you still have the paperwork from your rescinded purchase the Bonvoy account number may be in there, or you could try to search your name/email address on https://www.marriott.com/loyalty.mi - maybe you'll get lucky and find an account with rewards points that you can use with no strings attached.

I'm convinced that some of these scam artists pay TS employees for contact info.
I once made the mistake of giving the nice HGVC desk clerk my cell # for messages.
I then started getting 3d-party solicitations that went on for months.

The next time, the clerk said, "That won't happen here. We don't give those out."
I said, "That's nice. But you can't give mine out if you don't have it, either."

I went on an ownership update two weeks ago. I was told “we see you bought last year and cancelled the contract”. I most certainly didn’t buy anything last year, they called me with a package to buy and I declined. Don’t trust whatever tactic they use to open lines of communication to sell you something.
