Visit Puerto Vallarta (Punta Mita) - May or July?

I reserved a resort in Punta Mita (I think it is close from Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta) for July. It was not my preferred month, but there was no availability for December, so I chose that week.
Yesterday, I called the resort again and now they have May weeks available.

Which month is better (considering weather, rain, etc...) to visit that area?
I am traveling with 80 years old in-laws and they are not doing well in extreme heat or humidity.
Thanks!

The humidity in July would be brutal.

A travel agent who received a free week-long Mexican Riviera cruise during the summer, told me that it was so humid & miserable in PV that she wouldn't even leave the cruise ship when they docked in Puerto Vallarta.

Spring is definitely preferrable, and probably the earlier in Spring the better. Late May would be getting pretty toasty, as well. We've never gone any later than April (Easter week), but maybe others can chime in with more information.

The 1st time we went to PV was at the end of May and already the weather had turned hot and humid. If your check in date is around the 1st of May it probably would be better weather wise. July is always hot and HUMID.

Punta Mita

If you are in the middle of PV, Punta Mita would be to your right (North). The bay is like a horse shoe. Punta Mita is not real close to the downtown area of PV. We go to Punta Mita at least once during our visits. They have a nice little beach area and we eat and drink at the palapas on the beach. We go to and fro via the public buses. It all depends on what you want to do during your visit.

Punta Mita is about 50 miles from downtown Puerto Vallarta, so if you're going to venture there, you'd want to have a car. But as much as I enjoy PV, you can also have a fine vacation just staying around your resort.

I would not go in July if you can avoid it. While high temps will only be around 90, the humidity will be high. You are also getting to a time where restaurants will be closed for the season due to the lack of tourist activity.

I'll chime in with the chorus here. Temp and humidity will both be in the 90's.

We were there in Sept. last year. The locals- including the timeshare 'body-snatchers' call it Sept-hambre(hungry). July isn't much better. It will be warming up in May- the earlier, the better to go. At least in May it won't be crawling with kids out of school.

Even June was somewhat muggy. We were with several other couples having a great time, so we didn't notice it too much, but we didn't have any 80-year-olds with us. As I get older, I notice the heat more. :(

It will be as they say hot as hell in May, I love it like that...but it will be drier than July thus less humidity. July will be hot and muggy.

So depends what you like....hot and dry or hot and rainy and muggy..LOL
