Any feedback from the Villa del Palmar in Loreto? Looking to go for five nights in March. Is the resort completed? Anyone have feedback? Is there enough to do in the more remote location?

We were at VDP Loreto in April, 2015.

They may be planning another section, but it appeared that all of the main parts were complete--at least two of the wings for rooms, all restaurants, the spa/gym, several pools, etc. We stayed on an upper floor in the main building and had a excellent view of the sea and the resort grounds.

It is remote, but we found enough to do. The grounds are beautiful and the surrounding scenery is dramatic. We took a boat tour of the islands that took off from the small bay directly in front of the resort. You can also snorkel, kayak and padde board from the beach, and there are many hiking trails. They were working busily on the golf-courses and they laid a lot of sod during the week we were there, so I suspect some sections are open by now.

The spa is beautiful--we went for a massage late in our stay and wished we had used that facility sooner in our trip.

We took the free shuttle into Loreto one day. It takes a while so we did not go more than once but could have.

We were there the week after spring break, so not crowded at all. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

The owner update was one of the most low-key we ever attended.

Because of the more remote location, we chose the all-inclusive option which was plentiful and we upgraded to the fancier restaurant two evenings. All good.

There was entertainment every evening. Performers serve other staff functions during the day, so some were more enthusiastic than talented, but their spirit was good.

Overall, we were pleased with our visit and we plan to go back Loreto again, but first we are going to try Cancun in January.

Thanksgiving 2015 at VDP Loreto

Our vacation was not so much relaxing as exploring. Flew into La Paz which is another whole trip in itself - very lovely - more European feel, almost like the south of Spain. We rented a car from Fox/Mex who we would never rent from again as they extorted over $200 in insurance from us even though we had full coverage from Allianz travel insurance and then took an $816 deposit on our credit card.

Drove 4.5 hrs north to the beautiful islands of Loreto - when you drive over the mountains down to the ocean it is like heaven. The staff is outstanding, food is ok, sports bar and beach bar are the most fun. The golf course looks like it will be finished soon, not sure why they don't let people just golf the few holes that look like they are done. Always some construction going on, can't wait to see when its finished.

Went to the update - it was a tag-team girlfriend/boyfriend. She took us to breakfast at the buffet which was ok; we told her we had a number in mind to upgrade one of our summer week studios to points from gold. She said her boyfriend would help us out. Went upstairs to the office to talk to the boyfriend and he wanted over $13k to upgrade a summer week to 1000 VPA points. He saw on our original contract that we had upgraded to 1200 points on our winter developer week for $6500 and that was what we were willing to pay for the 1000 points 4 years later. He refused so we went our separate ways. Why would anyone refuse money on something that is worth nothing?

Home lots and 10 acre Equestrian lots are being sold - people have actually bought! As horse owners, we are not sure where they are going to get the hay and grain to be able to sustain horses in the middle of the desert...

We drove the 35 minutes north to Loreto a couple of times, not much shopping, good restaurants. Went to the Mission, very beautiful and humbling to think all that transpired historically, bad and good. If you can - Do your grocery shopping in La Paz for sure, as there is only one mediocre supermarket. Fish markets abound - got tremendous fish and shrimp caught that day and cooked it in our unit.

Drove the treacherous road to San Xavier as there was a festival going on - we don't recommend it if you have a phobia of dangerous cliffy roads. Another Mission there which we couldn't get near because of the crowds.

The Loreto area is one of the last unspoiled areas of this part of the world. We are so fortunate as Villa Group owners to have access to its beauty and splendor. Our resort is top drawer, super wonderful - get there!
