We bought into the Grand Mayan, Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico almost 10 years ago. I recently received my 5-year renovation fee notice ($1100). I am not interested in paying this bill or keeping my membership. Do I need to officially cancel my membership? If so, how?? If I don't pay the fee, Vida states in my original contract that it may cancel my membership- which is fine. I am concerned about penalties, fines, damage to my credit report, etc. Please advise. Has anyone out there cancelled a membership with this organization?

I do not think you will have a problem. I looked at my old original Grand Mayan contract and it does say that if you do not pay the renovation fee they can cancel your contract. If you are totally sure that you do not want this, you might want to send them the reno fee bill back with a note stating that you do not plan to pay this and they can cancel the membership. (Be sure to keep a copy.)

Same boat, would like to avoid paying the reno fee since I doubt we will ever use it again. Has anyone tried not paying Vida for the renovation fee?

What do you own and when did you buy it? I have some older contracts in my saved files and can look up the specifics.

I just received renovation fee invoice for $1273.19. Purchased Grand Mayan membership in February 2006. I have not been able to use resorts for eight or more years. How to avoid paying or penalty. Cancellation of membership no problem.

I checked our 2006 GM contract and this is what it says.

Our original MP 1999 contract has the same wording.

You can ignore it or you could call and tell them that you no longer want it and did not pay the last Reno Fee and are not paying this one, so they should Terminate the contract.
